Drama! Thursday, Period Four

Once again, class was meeting in the drama room. And once again, they were going to be expected to sit in a circle on the floor. Aside from the area where the students were seated, the rest of the classroom contained a variety of moddable objects scattered about the floor- ranging in size from shoes to chairs.

"So now that we've spent the time getting to know each other a little bit, we can truly get started!" Thor said enthusiastically. "According to the research I have done," yes, Thor was capable of research.

... If by research one meant 'use the Wikipedia after Loki showed him how'. ANYWAY.

"Trust is an important part of any ensemble. Even if the group of people you are working with have vastly different beliefs and personalities, if you trust that your teammates will be able to work with you towards a common goal, you can accomplish anything." It was possible he was talking from personal experience there, yes. "To that end we are going to start with a game that is designed to build trust. For this activity you will need to find a partner." No, they weren't doing trust falls. That was just silly. Once the students had paired up with a group of three if needed depending on how many ping in to play out the activity, he continued: "One of you will close your eyes, and the other shall act as a guide, telling you where to walk. You must be very careful not to bump in to other pairs... or to step on any of the objects on the floor. After a few minutes, I will ask you to switch, and the leader shall become the led."

Once they'd all had sufficient time to complete the activity, Thor bid them to return to the circle. "So: what was that like, to give control over to someone else? Did anyone find that their steps became more confident as you were reassured that the person leading you around would do a proper job?"

In the final minutes before dismissal, Thor addressed the class once more. "In our first meeting, I mentioned my desire to put together a show that you all will perform in. I understand that the end of the semester coincides with a popular Midgardian holiday that often includes dramatic performances as part of the celebration. Perhaps this is something you would like to do, or perhaps not! The content of the show shall largely be decided by you as a class- the goal is to showcase some of the things you will have learned during your time with me, and how you do that is up to you. I am asking you to take some time during the next week to come up with some ideas, and then we can share them next week!"

Might be! Maybe! And what better time for him to give it to her than a time when he was in a position to trip her over a stack of books if she laughs?

"Sparkle."

Said casually. Easily. Whatever. It was only a name.

One that he got a lot of grief about, around here.

She did not laugh, only because she was busy tilting her head in thought. "I've heard your name. Hang on." It was weirdly harder to contextualize things with a blindfold on. "Oh -- you don't have powers, either, right? I shall take comfort in our mutual boring humanness, Sparkle."

Psh, like she'd make fun. Her best friend was named after a Fleetwood Mac song.

"I have a reputation?" Wait. Wait, there had been more to that. Sparkle frowned a little while the rest of it clicked. "I have a reputation as being boring?"

That was perhaps not the right thing to take out of that sentence, Sparks.

"Says who?"

"I said the boring part," Olive said, raising her hand. She still hadn't taken off her blindfold, because girl did not do things half-assed, okay? "And Victor told me, because I was bitching about being one of the kids who can't shoot lightning bolts from my eyebrows or whatever. You came up as a person who is similarly not gifted with the wonder of being able to fly on wings braided from your own armpits or something, that's all."
myownface: (Oh. Crap.)

"Oh." Well. That actually sounded like a kind of not shitty power. Pit-hair-wings. After all, if you could still fly with them... "Okay, yeah, that works. It's like people who don't have superpowers are like some kind of minority around here. See, we should feel all special in our boringness. Makes us unique."

Yes. Unique.

"Turn just a little to your right, that should clear up a path for like three pretty big steps and then you have a footstool to get over, we'll worry about that when you get there."

Olive shifted to her right, following his directions. "I revel in my boringness," she declared. "It's just weird. Particularly considering I randomly tasted like oranges yesterday. Kinda hard to take when you're used to tasting like, you know, chapstick."
myownface: (O Rly?)

Mmmmm, chapstick. Sparkle smirked a little at that. Yeah, he knew what she was getting at, at least.

"Was I like the only one on the island that didn't taste like anything? By the end of the day I was feeling so left out I was starting to wonder if maybe I should roll around in pudding or something so I could fit in."

"Vanilla?" she wondered. "Butterscotch? Chocolate?"

It was important to know which kind of pudding.

"Chocolate," Sparkle settled on. "Definitely chocolate."

Cade had liked chocolate! Not that Sparkle had his eye on Cade in particular, but that sort of thing tended to stick in one's memory, was the thing.

"So feel about with your foot. The step-stool is like a couple of inches in front of you, and only ... what, half a foot tall?"

Something like that, anyhow. Sparkle still only vaguely comprehended imperial.

Olive poked a foot out, kicking the stool lightly, and then actually just stepped on it and over. "Awesome. And you should totally roll around in pudding anyway. I bet there's a market for that here."

She really did.
myownface: (Hmmmm.)

"What, and charge admission?" Sparkle wandered alongside her for a moment, contemplating the course. "Turn like ninety degrees right, and then take two steps forward."

"Well, or just for funsies," Olive noted, doing as told, her arms outstretched a little. "I'd go check out the guy covered in pudding, at least. I'm sure other people would. It could be like, a statement."
myownface: (O Rly?)

"Other people can fly with their pit hair or whatever. But none can compare to the terrible power of Pudding Man?"

... Actually, Sparkle kind of liked it.

"Never did get your name either, come to think of it."

"Olive," she supplied, smiling over in the general direction of his voice. "Like the food, yes. Not quite as fabulous as Sparkle, but my parents had a sense of humor. Food names are sort of a theme in my family."
myownface: (Throwin' Crap.)

"Olive," Sparkle echoed, grinning a little bit. "Welcome to the club for people with names that mean things. So far, it's, like... you and me. And if you dick around with the spellings I guess there's Yeul and Maeby. Unless you spell your name with like an h and a y tucked away in there just to be fancy."

It could happen!
