Model United Nations, Wednesday, period 1

The classroom was still set up with all the desks arranged in a circle, this time with the name plates labeled, and the flags the students made last week set up in the little flag holders.

It was just like the real UN!

"Welcome back, everypony!" Pinkie cheered when it was time for class to start. "I hope you all had a great week! Today we're going to get down to the business of real UN-ing! But first, I thought it'd be good to learn a little bit more about all our nations! So everypony, I'd like you to tell us what one of your nation's special holidays is! In Equestria, for instance, we have Hearts and Hooves Day, a day for everypony to let their very special someponies know how much we care for and appreciate them! Now you!" she pointed to a random student.

Once that was over with, Pinkie adopted her Serious Diplomat face. "And now, on to business. It has come to my attention that someone from the nation of Texas --" look, she wasn't great at Earth geography, okay? "-- has been worried that the UN of his world is going to try to take over his country! His world's UN has already denied this, but it raises an important question: should we invade Texas?" She brightened again. "I know lots of you are like me and maybe don't know anything at all about the nation of Texas, so I found a nice little fact sheet about it on the Interwebs for you all to use as we discuss! Oh! And if you haven't picked a nation yet, make sure you do that today!"

"New Year's Eve is the greatest holiday in the State of Inebriation," Kenzi informed the room. "It is not only nearly global, it's covered on TV, gets various other countries to give people the day off afterward, and is shiny." Kenzi started handing out glow necklaces (http://www.bkthedj.com/images/bkdj_sweet_sixteen_glow_party.jpg). "Remember, though, to always take a cab. Because walking back to the hotel only guarantees you'll get to a hotel. Not the one you're actually staying at."

"In the United States of Girls, one of the most important holidays is International Women's Day," Petra told the class. "It's held on March 8 every year, and it's an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the importance and accomplishments of women everywhere."

"The Festival of Banapis happens on Midsummer's Day, the longest day of the year," James said. "Those who do not celebrate the day of their birth, like most here in Fandom or in Great Kesh, count themselves another year older. It is celebrated with a great feast."

"Halloween," Olive told the class, "is very important to the United Federation of Underdogs, for we can hide our faces and no one gets on our case about being antisocial. It's held on October thirty-first, annually."

"In the Federation of Stateless People, our most important holiday is Solitary Day. We celebrate by splitting up and spending some alone time, preferably with chocolate and ice cream," said Ryan. "There's no set date for it, though. I sorta celebrate it about once a month."

"Mardi Gras is an important holiday for Fashionistas," Hanna said to the class. "We get to show off crazy costumes and masks with lots of glitter and beads during a parade. Yeah, totally a national holiday for us."

"Christmas is a huge holiday in Transia," Billy said. Somewhere, his mother was having a bad feeling about her precious Jewish son. "It's not so much about the presents, but everyone spends the whole day with their families and their friends, and tries to get along for one peaceful day."

"For the thirteen days of Winsol, we dance for the glory of Witch. It's a time for parties and presents and family," Karla explained. "The first night, the shortest night of the year, we share cups of blooded rum and think of her."

"I think we need to liberate those armadillos. And Prickly pear," Kenzi said very ...well, not soberly. "Also, I'm kinda thinking that a stand-off at the Alamao is required."

"Well, first off, Texas is a state, not a country, and I think the rest of the US would probably not like to be invaded," Petra said. "Second off Miss Texas was crazy and great with firearms and it sounds like this guy might be at least one of those things, too. I think Texas is at the very least on the 'handle with care' list."

"I don't think invasion is a good idea." Cassidy was convinced of this.

Ryan was prepared to be diplomatic and resolve any disagreements between nations. She did not want to see war break out this wecek.
