Library, Thursday All Day
It was probably fair to guess that Evan was excited to be showing up for his first shift as a library aide, what with the way he'd made absolutely certain his hair was a little bit neater than usual before leaving his room. He was also wearing his fanciest clothing... which mostly consisted of his old Jean Grey School uniform, blazer and necktie and shorts and all. The important thing here was that he looked professional, right? His old school's crest wasn't emblazoned on the front or anything, so it would suffice.
Of course, the blazer and shorts combo meant that not ten minutes into his shift, some of the more recent periodicals were sneaking up to his desk and leaving themselves wide open on any section that prominently featured men's fashion. At first, Evan thought maybe somebody was teasing him and just hiding whenever he was looking, but then he actually caught a magazine in the act of scaling the desk, and he sighed.
"It's not that bad, guys."
The library is open! And the aide is wearing shorts whether the periodicals like it or not!
[Open!]

Talk to Evan!
Re: Talk to Evan!
She hadn't really expected to see someone she'd talked to there but it wasn't a bad thing.
"Hello Evan," she said, offering him a smile.
Re: Talk to Evan!
Re: Talk to Evan!
Animals were going to give her headaches. All of them.
Yeul looked at the magazines he was gathering. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disturb your work with idle chatter."
Re: Talk to Evan!
It was all full of learning. And education. And such.
"What sort of things aren't you familiar with? I remember you were kind of confused about a lot of the food..."
Re: Talk to Evan!
It didn't mean she wasn't eating, because Yeul was perfectly capable of eating even if she didn't understand what it was she ate, but it was an added layer of confusion.
Re: Talk to Evan!
Look! Look he was being helpful! At his job! In the library!
HIS JOB IN THE LIBRARY, EVERYONE.
Re: Talk to Evan!
At least she knew what horses were now? It was progress!
Re: Talk to Evan!
"Here," Evan chirped, happy to put down the judgey, judgey magazines and to lead her into the stacks. "Let's start with animals first, maybe working with the ones that are native to the island before moving on to things you're more likely to find on your plate? That way if you see something out there, you'll know to avoid it, like gremlins and... weird invading things."
He smiled over his shoulder at her as he paused and waited for her to catch up.
"The rule of thumb is mostly that if it's trying to bite you, stay away from it."
Re: Talk to Evan!
"Ace, my assigned big sibling, mentioned gremlins to me," she shared. "It was confusing because we have gremlins at home but they seem to be quite different."
Also her gremlins were edible. These were... probably not.
"I am well acquainted with the stay out of biting-range rule however."
Re: Talk to Evan!
Thank goodness.
"I think everyone has stuff they need to get used to when they come here. Just some more than others, you know?"
Re: Talk to Evan!
Yeul shrugged a little. "There are many monsters in my world. Everyone knows that rule, I think." Unless they were very, very sheltered. "Gremlins at home are silver and white and yellow. They tend to come in groups and use magic on people."

Re: Talk to Evan!
Should she have dusted?
=Most people get cold feet before their first shift, not after,= Zeela pointed out with an ostentatious yawn.
::I just want to double check that I did it okay!:: Sholeh said, running down the hall to the library. ::I'm just being careful!::
"Oh no!" she said aloud, when she entered the library and saw several magazines strewn on the desk. "I can't believe it!"
Had she actually even had magazines out on her shift? IT DIDN'T MATTER.
Re: Talk to Evan!
They were out to get him! Him and his adorable knees!
Re: Talk to Evan!
HOW COULD SHE HAVE OVERLOOKED SO MANY MAGAZINES?
"I swear, I didn't mean to leave them all out! I don't even remember them being there!"
One day on the job and she was going to get fired for leaving everything out.
Re: Talk to Evan!
"You didn't leave anything out," he said, holding his hands up and trying to sound reassuring. "The desk was clear when I got in... The place looked great!"
HONEST!
Re: Talk to Evan!
*Sweetie, ease back just a little bit,* Zhahar suggested. *It's okay. He said the place looked great remember?*
Sholeh took a deep breath, and steadied herself. "You sure you're sure?" she asked, looking up at him with big, green eyes. "If I did it wrong, you can tell me."
Re: Talk to Evan!
He had no idea why Uncle Cluster kept telling him to meet more girls his age. Apparently they were all insane.
"I'm absolutely positive," he swore, daring a blink before his eyeballs could dry out. "The only thing I noticed when I walked in was how quiet this place is before anyone gets here. But... books do get moved around during the day, you know? If there are some on the desk during my shift, there are pretty good odds that they showed up there during my shift, too. You don't have to worry."
Or flail! No flailing!
Re: Talk to Evan!
=Except now this gray kid thinks you're crazy,= Zeela pointed out. =Not sayin' he's wrong, though. Crazy.=
A quick expression almost like a pout crossed Sholeh's face, before it was wiped away by an earnest, rather chagrined smile. "Sorry," she said, acutely embarrassed by her behavior. "I just...it's my first job. In a library. I don't want to ruin everything my very first day. Sorry."
Re: Talk to Evan!
And reading things. That too.
Re: Talk to Evan!
Her voice trailed off into a mumble. "...Reading."
Re: Talk to Evan!
Re: Talk to Evan!
...Her friends probably wouldn't appreciate knowing that, but it was true.
"I found a book of myths about gods!" she continued. "All sorts of gods, from many, many places. I think it's actually a little kids' book, because the language and vocaburlary are pretty simple, but I'm from a different Landscape and I've never heard of any of this stuff, so I didn't think it would matter much if I started with a little kid book."

OOC!
I am simultaneously thrilled and horrified. But I can't say I didn't see it coming. Hooboy.
