Philosophy 102- Monday- 1st period- Class #1

And once again, the Danger Shop theater was a go, with Jaye at the front of the room. To be honest, she'd missed it. Not because she liked the work or teaching or dealing with kids or anything, but she liked being totally able to boss people around.

"Welcome to Philosophy 102, or as I like to call it, 'No, really, we're just going to watch movies,'" Jaye said. "I'm Jaye, and... I guess you can tell me your name if you want? And like if you believed the class description when you signed up because last time I did this class no one did."

And after any and all introductions were done, and Jaye looked slightly less bored listening to people, she said, "And for our first class, we're going to watch a movie. It's called dear lord the meta for Arachnoquake. Enjoy." She was just about to head to hear seat at the back of the theater, and then stopped. "Oh, and at the end of the class I want you to write a short, paragraph-long essay on what you think the filmmaker was trying to say. You know, from a philosophical standpoint."

Welcome to the very first class of the new semester, boys and girls.

This one was easy.

The filmmakers were trying to say that they had imbibed a lot of drugs before trying to make anything good or reasonable. And possibly while filming. And editing.

For a second, Jim considered what to write here. He figured (or maybe he hoped) that the teacher wasn't looking for anything serious so being a smartass in the essay was probably going to happen.

Eventually, he just drew a really big spider eating a really badly drawn stick figure with cowboy boots (just for flair there). Underneath that he wrote:

I think they were trying to say that spiders are gonna be our future kings and queens so prepare now. Also, they wanted to let us know that a lot of these people needed paychecks desperately.

Juliet spieled out something relatively convincing about how the fear of spiders was actually fear of death and decay, and the film played on those universal feelings by turning death and decay into giant monsters.

What? She had depths.

Arietty's essay was about how the filmmakers were clearly trying to put together anti-spider propaganda, which was absurd since spiders could be really very friendly creatures and served many purposes, especially pest control.
