Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

There were some extra tables set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. If you wanted to get away from the crowd, or stake out a spot to talk to folks, these spots would be where to go!

Sia had had a pretty good day, all things considered, but at some point she had to get away from the crowd for a bit. So when she saw the girl sitting on the table, she asked, "Do you mind if I sit?"

"It's a free table," Olive said with a smile. "I mean, I don't have my name on it or anything. Although," she added, twisting to look down at the tabletop, "Gerald felt the need to put his. And Gerald...hearts Tiffani. With an I. In case you were curious. It's good they decided to memorialize that for everyone."

"Destruction of property seems like a good way to immortalize something that probably ended three weeks later," Sia said, taking a seat.

"Hey, they were in love, man," Olive said, in a very solemn affectation. "We could all learn something from Gerald and Tiffani. They were fearless. Proud to proclaim it for all who might...you know, sit at this table and be bored enough to read what someone carved into it. And people say romance is dead."

"Those people obviously haven't been looking at picnic tables," she said dryly.

"Someday when I get married, I'm gonna look at picnic tables for inspiration for my vows," Olive replied. "Also, hi, sorry, I'm getting all caught up in graffiti. I'm Olive."

"Marasiah," she replied. "You're one of the new students?"

"Brand spankin' new, yep," she agreed. "That is a crazy-pretty name."

Did she need to hear it again before she'd attempt to say it? Yes indeedy, but she could at least say it was pretty for the time being.

"Thank you. That must be why everyone shortens it." Which she didn't have a problem with. It did amuse her that she'd heard how pretty her name was twice today, though.

"...Mary?" Olive tried. "Mara? Mar...sie?"

Those all kind of sucked. She was bad at this.

"Sia," she offered. "Marsie? Really?"

"It's cute," Olive said, even if yeah, she agreed that it could be...better. "Sia's cool. Like, if I'm saying goodbye to you, I can say, 'See ya, Sia!' and it's adorable."

What? It was.

"I have never once heard that before," Sia admitted, looking amused.

"Okay, I almost don't believe you because I spend half my life hearing about how I'm probably good in martinis," Olive said, "but yeah, I'm gonna say that to you like all the time now."

Sorry, Sia.

"That is why Marsie doesn't work. Because there's no pun with it."

"I wouldn't advise saying that to me all the time," Sia said, a touch dryly. "For one, I'm sure it would get old quickly."

That wasn't the reason she didn't want to hear it all the time, but she thought that was the one that might resonate.

"I'll change it up," Olive promised. "I keep it fresh, don't worry. Consider yourself on your toes, Sia."

"I should have been smarter about this," Sia decided. Lesson learned! She'd know for next time.
