Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Although the summer had been record-breakingly hot, the weather outside today was actually kind of pleasant. There was a cool breeze blowing across the lawn, making the smells of the buffet wander, and hopefully enticing people to come over to the school and welcome all the new folks.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out as usual, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Captain Rogers," Jaime said, tilting his head down in greeting of his teaching partner.

"Ser Jaime," Steve said with a nod of the head in response. "Looking forward to this?" 'This' being both the picnic and the larger matter of the looming semester ahead.

"Oh, certainly. If there is enough wine at the bar in town to keep me from going mad." He'd met the students already, Steve. He'd met them.

Steve frowned on alcoholism, but...well, he'd also met the students. "Well, there are two bars," he offered.

It wasn't alcoholism if you were a Lannister! It was being cheerful.

Yes.

"And I believe we have Stannis Baratheon in our class. Two bars may not be enough."

To be fair, the Lannisters had quite a bit to drink about.

"I don't believe I know him," Steve said. "But I take it you do?"

The laugh Jaime gave at that was slightly strangled. "He is my brother in law. Or will be."

"Ah," Steve said. "Family's always tricky." Not that Steve would really know as his family had all been dead for eighty years, whee. "Is this a timelines thing or just...upcoming wedding?" That Jaime did not sound entirely thrilled about.

Jaime, don't make inappropriate noises at the word 'wedding'. It was strange and explaining why would just make your world seem even crazier.

"A... timeline thing," he settled on. "The man I know back home is in the process of trying to take the throne from my sister's children."

His children too, but shhh.

The inappropriate noises were kind of concerning Steve about his new co-teacher's mental state, though not as much as that thing about his sister's children would have. But, given the information available to him, he said, "I can see why you would have some...concerns about teaching him, then."

Hey, you would too if you knew about how Robb Stark and Joffrey Lannister died.

"Just a few."

There was a slight pause before Steve decided to just say it and get it out in the open: "Especially tactics."

Jaime laughed at that. "Oh, no. There is very little I can teach him on this subject. Circumstances... aren't in his favor back home."

"Well, that's fortunate for your family, I guess," Steve said. He considered what Jaime had said re: brother-in-law, and, "I hope he's not the father of these children." Because that would be extra dysfunctional, and also way less dysfunctional than the truth.

Jaime smiled at that, calmly glossing over facts. "No, their father was the king."

"Oh," Steve said. "Well, it sounds like a messy situation, but at least it's not any messier than it has to be?" Oh Steve.

"For now," Jaime replied. "There will be other complications if the class list is to be believed."

"I noticed that Ares' son is on it," Steve said, "and I've heard it can be difficult to keep him in class...Aaron, I mean, the Aaron boy. Alexander." He'd heard this from Nick, who had laughed. "Or is there something else?"

"Alexander? Good with a sword." That was actually high praise from Jaime. "No, I mean Daenerys Targaryen. There is... no love lost between herself and I."

BECAUSE YOU KILLED HER DAD, JAIME.

"More politics?" Steve guessed.

"Isn't it always?" And murder. Which amounted to the same thing in Westeros.

"I try to stay out of politics, myself." You know, except for when he had to take sides in a superhuman civil war. Minor things like that.
