Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Although the summer had been record-breakingly hot, the weather outside today was actually kind of pleasant. There was a cool breeze blowing across the lawn, making the smells of the buffet wander, and hopefully enticing people to come over to the school and welcome all the new folks.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out as usual, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Anakin was there in his requisite swirly cape, on the lookout today for an Englishwoman who seemed to like cats.

If she showed up in pink, Zoe's assurances or not, he was going to do something Drastic.

Minerva was certainly not in pink. A welcoming gathering seemed an appropriate place for her tartan-adorned robes, and seeing someone else in a cape was a welcome sight. "Good day. Are you Mr. Skywalker?"

Zoe had given her some Signs To Look For when it came to him. "Cape" and "brooding look" were both on the list.

"I am," Anakin said with a tiny smile. "Are you my new boss?"

"Minerva McGonagall, at your service," she said, holding out her hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I wanted to be certain to introduce myself to the other members of the administration."

Anakin shook it. "It's nice to meet you as well. I'd be happy to point people out to you if you'd like."

Explaining the outfits might take more doing.

And Pinkie Pie.

"I wanted to have a chance to speak with you first, if you don't mind? Mrs. Winchester said you used to be a student. You must have enjoyed the school very much to have been here for so long." That was something she was very familiar with, personally.

"We have a very diverse student population, and some come from very unstable home dimensions," Anakin said. "For me, this was the only place that's ever felt like home. I wanted to make it feel like that for others who might be faltering for a place to belong."

"That sounds very much like my last school," Minerva said. "It's where I went to school, and then where I taught. It was home for many students, and I believe it always will be."

"Which school was that?" Anakin asked politely.

"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," she said with a hint of pride. "I spent the better part of my life there, as a student and teacher."

"So you're a witch, then?" Anakin replied. "We have a number of students with supernatural abilities across various dimensions. Some are more disciplined in what they can do than others."

"There are teenagers who are undisciplined in their skills? Surely, that can't be," Minerva said with just a touch of sarcasm.

"Shocking, isn't it?" Anakin replied dryly. "Some don't even know they have powers until after they arrive here, or aren't used to admitting to it. So far the school hasn't been blown up more than once?"

After a few days here, it probably wasn't a huge surprise to see Jaina at the picnic. She was smiling when she came over, greeting him with, "Hi there."

"Welcome back," Anakin said, giving her a tight hug.

"Thanks," she said, hugging him back just as tightly. "Have I missed anything?"

"So far I don't recognize any faces," he said, "and nothing seems to be on fire yet."

But there were dragons, so that might not stay true forever.

"Can't say I'm not relieved at either one of those things," Jaina said. Because she didn't put it past this place to throw her a tiny Jacen or something. "I thought I was done with these."

"At least the food's still good," Anakin said, "and you can try to pick out your students."

"I haven't looked at my roster yet," she admitted. "I've been too busy setting up. I'm sure I probably have Anakin, though."

"I think I do too," Anakin said. "That'll get confusing."

"That'll get interesting," Jaina said. "Considering his debates with Jacen..."

She'd almost want to sit in on that, but she didn't actually want to be reminded of those debates. She couldn't handle that just yet.

"You okay?" Anakin checked.

"Okay enough," she answered. "Today's a little better than yesterday, tomorrow'll probably be a little better than today... I'll be fine."

Anakin reached out to give her a sideways hug. "And if it's not, you can tell me."
