fandomhigh | BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge [Saturday morning]

It had been with several bone-crushing hugs, a lucky rabbit's foot, two trashy books and an iPod that Olive had boarded the plane. If she had to guess, geographically, she had started to really miss her parents and brothers somewhere over Texas. (Texas was huge. She was probably right.) She'd pushed that away and shoved in her earbuds in an attempt to sleep, to no avail.

And...now she was supposed to meet new classmates. Okay. She found the designated loungey area thing -- and holy crap, that glittery sign was like something Marianne would make (so...not a great omen) -- and took a seat. Tempted as she was to retreat into her book and iPod again, she instead only fiddled idly with her phone, looking up every couple minutes to see if anyone relatively her age had come over. She hated being the first one anywhere. Now there was like, this onus on her.

She had maybe just won her Words With Friends game with her mom, as soon as the plane had landed, with "onus." She was pretty proud of that.

"So you're a bus driver?" Olive replied, raising her eyebrows.

Equally unlikely.

"Yes," April continued to lie. Because why not. "I'm a bus driver with no CDL."

"Okay, no, I'm not getting on that bus," Olive said, frowning. "You're like, some hipster who showed up here to be all 'ironic' about 'picking people up from the airport' or something."

Olive was misusing airquotes mostly out of uneasiness, here.

"I'm pretty sure that didn't call for air-quotes."

Yeah, Olive. She sure told you.

"I'm pretty sure you can't pick up minors in the state of Maryland without documentation," Olive pointed out, raising her eyebrows.

April was so hoping this girl wasn't in her class.

"You can always walk."

She totally had documentation. In the form of... an email. On her phone. But being difficult was far and away her favorite activity, so...

"Or I can call the school," Olive pointed out, holding up her own phone, "and point out that some strange lady is endangering me, here at the airport."

Or the cops, but that seemed a lot more drastic. At this point she was pretty sure this girl was legit but seemed to delight in being a total pain in the ass.

...Damn it, Olive.

April sighed heavily, took out her phone like it was the biggest chore ever, and held up the email assigning her to bus duty.

"Any more fucking questions?"

She sure was charming today!

"Language," Olive admonished, trying not to look too delighted at having won.

She failed.

Yeah, well, April totally had a comeback for that! She super-did! Really!

"There's assigned seats on the bus," she announced loudly. "Whoever has the worst BO is sitting next to this chick."

You're welcome, Olive!

"Oh, come on," Olive said, rolling her eyes. "Who is going to own up to that?"

"It's that guy," April said with some certainty, pointing at Cade. "For sure."

"Good," Olive replied. "I was sitting next to him earlier. He smelled fine."
