Introduction to Robotics, Friday

"Hey," Kaidan greeted the class, "This is gonna be your last class-- and probably mine." Alliance command willing. Wasn't that he disliked this place, but there was probably something more useful he could be doing. "So let's make something of it. I want to see your projects-- everything you've been working on these past few weeks. Did they turn out the way you wanted? If they didn't, why not?"

He crossed his arms. "Oh, and we're going to put them through something of an obstacle course," he added, looking lightly amused. "If it doesn't work... you have my permission to roll it."

They were teenagers. They'd appreciate that, he was pretty sure.

Topher was... maybe bouncing a little at the idea of sending his drone through an obstacle course.

Shut up, you had your squee-y moments, Topher had his.

Anakin, bent over his datapad with his hair falling into his eyes, was just going to take the lecture time to go over his droid's code for about the trillionth time.

He hadn't altered it in the last several dozen reviews, but that wasn't stopping him from checking again.

And again.

And possibly again.

"It works," Victor volunteered, frowning at his drone. "It's not fancy, I'd like to improve the shielding, but we ran out of time."

"Mine is probably somewhat less sophisticated compared to those of my classmates," William acknowledged. "But I wanted to create a device that could be used for surveilliance, using materials that could be made available in my own time," he'd cheated a little with the camera, but according to his research it wouldn't be too much longer before film was developed (pardon the pun), so he hadn't let that stop him. "The lack of sophistication means it cannot be remotely activated or controlled, merely wound and then set loose." He had his doubts regarding whether it would manage the obstacle course, but he was going to give it a try anyway.

Thomasina was frowning at her drone, shaking her head softly.

"Mine is... incomplete," she admitted, though each word had to be dragged past a tongue that wished to refuse them. She didn't like failing. "I have been able to program it for movement, but I appear to have made an error while modifying the code for processing input."

It was rather roughly put together, too, although -- despite a lack of references that even the least technically-inclined of her classmates would have, by virtue of having been born later -- she'd done fairly well for herself, mentally taking apart the blueprints and schematics until they made sense to her. There was just too much for her to learn in too short a time when you started as far back as she did.

Topher was totally around, watching his drone try to tackle the mechs. And was not-at-all-subtly doing that thing bowlers did while watching their bowling balls swerve down the lane, where he kept tilting his body a little to encourage his drone to follow suit. It was about as effective as it was for bowlers (which was to say 'not,') but fortunately his drone seemed to be doing fine on its own.

Which was good. Otherwise Topher might have tantrumed.
