Umbridge High School Building, Saturday Evening

There were some clouds hanging around the spires of Umbridge High School, but not enough; there was an overlaying sense that there shouldn't be as much sunlight shining down on it as there was.

It was quiet. Kind of. There was tension in the air, a wound-up strung-up thing that ensnared the school. Somehow it seemed as if even the birds didn't want to touch down on the building itself, and the gates seemed to fold into themselves, even if they weren't quite shut.

And all that on a weekend, too.

Sam turned at the sound of a voice, and looked at Rapunzel just as hesitantly. "Hi there," he said. "Are you trying to escape too?"

"I-I'm looking for someone?" That wasn't supposed to be a question.

"Um... are you... are you Sam?" He looked right. She thought. Tall. Floppy hair. She didn't think he was very cute, but maybe that was just because she'd had a rough couple of days. And, for that matter, it looked like he had too.

"Yeah, I'm Sam," he said, straightening up a little. "Why are you looking for me? What's wrong?"

"I-I'm sorry... I... have to be sure..."

Rapunzel blinked, still skittish.

"Could you... um... smile?" And dimples Dinah had said.

The strangeness of the question made Sam laugh, and then yes, he smiled for her, as much as he could manage. "Is that better?" he asked.

"Dimples."

She nodded. Very seriously. Unable to foster a smile in return.

"Your friend Dinah? S-she was looking for you. I... I said I'd help."

That got Sam to drop his smile as well. "Dinah? Where is she? I told her I'd watch her but I got lost and... can you take me to her?"

Rapunzel nodded jerkily. "She's... she's hurt?"

Bad, Rapunzel thought, but she wasn't sure. She hadn't been able to look.

"No," Sam said quietly, shaking his head. "I need to get to her. I promised her I'd have her back." If anything happened to Dinah now, after they were so close to being free, he didn't know what he'd do.

Another jerky nod. "She's this way." She turned and started walking, but did pause after a couple of steps to look back to see if Sam was following.

Sam was definitely following, muttering to himself that Dinah needed to be okay. She had to be, there was no other option.

Dinah was still lying on the floor, shivering, feet propped up; hearing footsteps, she opened her eyes and gave a weak wave to Rapunzel and Sam. "You found him. Go you. Told you." Then, a tad guiltily: "Got shot."

"I found him," Rapunzel agreed, still careful not to look too closely at Dinah or her injuries. "I think I'll..."

Not complete that sentence since she didn't know what to say. Also step to the side, moving down the hall a bit so that she wasn't in the way.

"Oh god," Sam said softly, kneeling down next to Dinah. "Did I say you could get shot? I don't remember saying that."

"I'm gonna say it was implied as a bad idea," Dinah admitted, struggling to sit up. "Goddamn Kerrigan. Oooooogh. Dizzy... help me walk?"

"I can do better than that," Sam said, moving to try to scoop her up in his arms. Ah, the benefits of having a tall, strong guy as your friend. "We've got to get you some help."

"Sam," Dinah protested, very weakly. "Fireman carry, less strain on you." Although maybe not a great idea to have all the blood rush to her head. Or maybe that was her trying not to enjoy feeling... safe. "Maybe Karla is around. Or a doctor outside?"

"Don't worry about my strain. I'm not the one with a bullet in me," Sam insisted as they headed outside. "We'll find someone. You're going to be fine."

"I am now." The shivering had stopped when Sam picked her up, even if the throbbing pain hadn't. Or the tiredness. Dinah yawned, and dropped her head on his shoulder. "Damnit. Now I can't dance everywhere. Stupid bullet."
