Umbridge High School Building, Saturday Evening

There were some clouds hanging around the spires of Umbridge High School, but not enough; there was an overlaying sense that there shouldn't be as much sunlight shining down on it as there was.

It was quiet. Kind of. There was tension in the air, a wound-up strung-up thing that ensnared the school. Somehow it seemed as if even the birds didn't want to touch down on the building itself, and the gates seemed to fold into themselves, even if they weren't quite shut.

And all that on a weekend, too.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

"He's just sore because he doesn't have opposable thumbs," Sparkle decided, sauntering up behind Maeby, backpack slung over one shoulder and a lazy grin on his face. "We going to open this thing now, see what kind of treasure they've got buried under the X?"

... There was no X.

"Can I?" Frank said, practically bouncing. Look, this was exciting stuff! Breaking in and saving the day... it was like he was a superhero or something. He leaned in, put in the code, and...

"Is that a piece of paper?"

SERIOUSLY, UMBRIDGE? THAT WAS YOUR DEFENSE SYSTEM?

Karla snatched for it. "Of course!" she said, face-palming at her own stupidity. "The Detention roster! Of course that's how she'd be able to key the defenses! It would get stronger with every name she put on it, too."

She held up the paper with a genuine smile on her face. "I think Momoko has the right idea," she told them. "Let's burn the bitch."

Karla would sever the magics tying the roster to detention's defenses and then the utter destruction should take them out completely.

"Fuck yeah!"

Sorry, crew. Sparkle had brought a bottle of gasoline with him, and had a lighter in one pocket. He'd been bringing them along in the hopes of maybe torching some desks a little later with Atton, but this suddenly seemed way more awesome.

Which was why he was snatching the paper out of Karla's hands without waiting for permission to just go ahead and do it, slapping it on the floor, sloshing some gas on it, and then opening his zippo and letting it fall on top of the damn thing.

... If anyone bitched, he'd insist that he was just being thorough, here.

"Immolation by the stupidity of youth. How droll."

Ikol was always a nice bird to have along, wasn't he?

Okay, so, the piece of paper burned up, and it kind of fizzed in weird magic colors as it went, but ... other than the awesome flames caused by Sparkle's gas can, the whole scenario felt oddly anticlimactic. Maybe she was expecting the victory noise from one of her video games.

"... was that it?" Maeby asked. "Did we do it?"

It was a little too quiet.

Immediately after that question was the sound of a Hulk (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/3176427.html?thread=193440747#t193440747) breaking through the defenses.

"I think it's safe to say we did," Karla said. "Now then. Let's go cause some mayhem."
