Umbridge High School Building, Saturday Evening

There were some clouds hanging around the spires of Umbridge High School, but not enough; there was an overlaying sense that there shouldn't be as much sunlight shining down on it as there was.

It was quiet. Kind of. There was tension in the air, a wound-up strung-up thing that ensnared the school. Somehow it seemed as if even the birds didn't want to touch down on the building itself, and the gates seemed to fold into themselves, even if they weren't quite shut.

And all that on a weekend, too.

"I can take care of myself!" Liara protested fiercely. Without waiting another beat, she sent a vivid blue shockwave careening into one of the walls, throwing around everything in its path and putting a good dent in the wall.

//Wasn't doubting it for an instant, Sunshine,// Jono replied, something somewhere between a pure, exhilarated laugh and a trace of awe in his voice as he watched that shockwave rip through their surroundings. //But trust me, he gives gods a run for their money. Let him bulldoze whatever he wants, and we can clean up behind him.//

It was a pretty sound strategy, really.

It involved not getting killed.

"What is he?" she yelled back - the situation had gone so far into pandemonium so quickly she wasn't sure whether to raise her voice or not.

//He's what happens when science goes horribly, terribly wrong. We let that one have his way, whatever his way might be, because we enjoy living, luv.//

You did not want to make the Hulk angry.

//I can barely hear you over him, luv. Just think at me, I'll pick it up.//

Out here, it was as though somebody had flipped on a switch. Everything was more vibrant that he'd ever known it to be, thoughts, emotions, everything. And he was drinking it in for the first time in his life.

Are you sure? Liara thought, projecting as well as she could considering the large gap of space between them.

She was still humming with dark energy, sparking blue, but she wasn't sure where to direct it now.

//I'm sure. Right now, this is like... I can't even describe it. I've been down there three years, I feel as though I can hear everything.//

He wasn't going to actively listen in, but there was a buzzing in his mind, the excitement of the thoughts of the people around them, and it left him feeling as though he could take a step back and hear the breath of the world itself. If he had the time to do so.

//Help me cover everyone else's exit, luv? And then I'm going to level half th'bloody building, if there's any left standing once our Hulk is finished with it.//

I will try, Liara promised. I may have to have a large meal after this.

I could try making a singularity.

Jono had never been to space, Liara. All he knew about this sort of thing came from sci-fi novels that he'd read years ago.

No. It's... a complicated biotics technique.

She wasn't actually sure she could do it. She wasn't even sure why she'd mentioned it.

It lifts everyone within a radius of several meters. I... don't know whether I can do it. Never mind. I will pull whoever comes near our people.

A second later, a bright-blue pull flared through the room and yanked one of the Madri high up into the sky... and drifting against the ceiling, helpless.

Jono glanced up at the Madri, and then grinned, as best as he was able.

//That's a handy trick,// he decided. //Keeps them from multiplying, at least.//

Of course, so did burning them. Which, all things considered, was still rather satisfying, in spite of the smell.
