Umbridge High School Building, Saturday Evening

There were some clouds hanging around the spires of Umbridge High School, but not enough; there was an overlaying sense that there shouldn't be as much sunlight shining down on it as there was.

It was quiet. Kind of. There was tension in the air, a wound-up strung-up thing that ensnared the school. Somehow it seemed as if even the birds didn't want to touch down on the building itself, and the gates seemed to fold into themselves, even if they weren't quite shut.

And all that on a weekend, too.

Cassidy was a bit shocked by the new arrivals and her first instinct was to hide. Visitors coming down here was never a good thing -- and with all of the chaos and yelling she started looking for a place to hide and try to avoid any further pain or confusion.

She looked around for people she knew to see if they knew what was happening, all the while pressing herself against the wall and trying to remain unseen.

After checking in with Jono, Karla knew there was one more person she had to talk to. *Cassidy!* she yelled over a psychic thread. *I know you are getting ready to get out of there, yes?!*

Cassidy's head jerked up at the sound of Karla in her mind, but it was different this time. It felt like more, like a part of her was returning.

*Karla! Karla!* Someone was still a little scattered and cracked, but there was a strength beneath it that she hadn't felt in herself in a very long time. *My Craft! My Craft is coming back!* There was a pause. *Witchfire...*

No Cassidy. You shouldn't be using witchfire or any power through your body right now. Escape is what you should be doing.

*Cassidy!* Karla's mindvoice was stern. *What have we been talking about?! What did I tell you to do?!*

If Karla had been standing there, she would have seen Cassidy huff, even as she killed the bit of witchfire she had created in her hands. It would have been satisfying to burn and purify this tainted place...

...but she had promised Karla.

*Yes, Sister,* she responded, emotions flooding her and her mind voice. *I'm getting away from this place.*

She wasn't clear on where she was supposed to go, but she wasn't staying here for anyone to trap her and hurt her again. She pulled up her strongest shield -- which wasn't quite as strong as it usually would be -- and started making her way out of the prison and moving up through the building.

Raven had been occupied when the escape began, and for a moment she just enjoyed the chaos. But the need to obey kicked in, which meant gathering up escaping prisoners.

There were many potentials to focus on, but she hadn't lost her sense of self-preservation. So she sought out a weak link, stumbling through the school on her way to freedom.

She teleported herself in front of Cassidy, blocking her path to the outside. "Just where do you think you are going?" she said.

Cassidy snarled a little in her mind when Raven appeared in front of her.

"I'm getting out of here and you're going to get the hell out of my way so I can."

Of all of the people that had come to torture them in the prison, there was only one that conjured as much rage as she was feeling. Her Jewel flashed at her throat before Cassidy let it fade beneath a shield.

She may be considered weak right now, but she was also running on pure emotion and the feel of Craft moving through her body and soul.

Raven laughed. "How can you fight me, Cassidy?" she said. "Your jewel is broken. You are broken."

She tried to force her way into Cassidy's mind to exploit her fears against her as she had before.

Cassidy's shields were holding so far and she even smiled at Raven.

"You lied. My Jewel is in tact. I have my Craft again."

That was all of the warning Raven received before Cassidy sent a ball of witchfire at her face.

Stupid Karla undoing all her lovely work. Bitch was going to have to pay for that.

Raven barely managed to get out of the way in time. "Perhaps for now," she threatened. "But what I did once, I can easily do again, little queen."

"NO!"

Cassidy didn't even aim carefully this time, she just let loose with a burst of tiger-eye energy at Raven.

She had promised Karla she would get herself somewhere safe and Raven was in her way, preventing that. She wasn't going to break a promise to her sister-Queen and she most certainly wasn't going to let herself be a victim to this tainted Black Widow again.

In her mind, there was a very clear and strong image of Raven being consumed by witchfire and burning.

She knew that Raven could get into other people's minds to experience things, well Cassidy wanted see her experience that.

Unfortunately for Raven, she'd been trying to link her mind to Cassidy's to do very much the same to her, which left her vulnerable to a counter attack. Suddenly she felt herself wreathed in flames, searing her flesh. She screamed and fell, trying to put out the fire and heal herself before she burned completely.

In a moment she'd recognize the illusion. Better run while you can, Cassidy.

Cassidy was not feeling suicidal and Karla would be disappointed in her if she lingered, so as soon as she reflected the image at Raven, she pulled up a sight shield around herself. When the sight shield was in place, she dodged around Raven and ran like hell.

She would plan to come after Raven at a later time; when she had rested and eaten enough to get her full strength back.

A moment later Raven recognized the illusion for what it was. Disgusted at herself for falling for it, she picked herself up and tried to decide how best to proceed.

She'd had it with these monkey fighting rebels in this Monday to Friday school.
