Umbridge High School Building, Saturday Evening

There were some clouds hanging around the spires of Umbridge High School, but not enough; there was an overlaying sense that there shouldn't be as much sunlight shining down on it as there was.

It was quiet. Kind of. There was tension in the air, a wound-up strung-up thing that ensnared the school. Somehow it seemed as if even the birds didn't want to touch down on the building itself, and the gates seemed to fold into themselves, even if they weren't quite shut.

And all that on a weekend, too.

Jack had no idea what was happening to the security chief, but he was closer to her and less occupied than anyone else with powers. He put his head down and simply charged at her, willing himself not to feel any effect from whatever it was that she was doing.

Most people were at least inconvenienced for a bit if you knocked them to the ground, he'd found.

Most people weren't Succubi drawing the very life-force from the bodies around them, the physically closer the better. Running at Bo was basically like shouting 'Hey, here! I even brought a straw for you!'

Blue light sparked in her eyes and around her face, while her skin pulsed red-orange, energy moving up her outstretched arms like a lantern burned inside her.

Jack kept running for a moment, then faltered and froze as she drained more and more of his energy. His heart was barely beating by the time he collapsed to the floor of detention.

Oh, she did. In another world, the taste might have been familiar. In another world, she might have been appalled.

Two years ago, she might have been appalled.

Now, she just smiled, and glowed, and took it all in.
