Detention, Depths of the Castle, Friday

So, one of the important things to realize about detention was that the monotony of everyone's daily lives was part of the punishment. That meant that even though someone had died yesterday, the day's schedule didn't change a bit.

After all, most of your little lives just weren't that important in the grand scheme of things.

"You are lyyyying," Raven said. Hanna was blonde and pretty, just like Karla. Maybe she'd take her frustration there out on Hanna.

"Tell me, or I will rip it from your mind," she threatened in a low voice.

Hanna flinched at the threat. "Someone who knows my secrets and sends me messages. Scary ones. I-I don't know who. Could be anyone. Anyone in this room. Could be you."

That was actually the truth. Hanna didn't know who 'A' had been back when she was home and safe from here.

"Maybe it is me," Raven said, unable to resist. "I knew what you were afraid of without you even telling me, did I not? I know your secrets."

It was true, she did seem to know Hanna was afraid. "Why? Why do you want to hurt me? What did I do to you to deserve this?"

Technically, she had not received any messages while here. Just the ones she imagined. But she sure remembered some of the nasty things 'A' made her do.

"You are only punished if you deserve it," Raven said with a little shrug. She could read Hanna's fears, but she didn't know the history with "A." But she could try to pry the story out to use against her.

"Tell me why you do not think you deserve this, after what you have done," she urged.

"Because it was an accident," Hanna said frantically, suddenly remembering being outside the shed with her friends...and Ali with the smoke bomb. "Didn't mean to hurt her..."

She closed her eyes, trying not to think about it, trying not to remember the pain 'A' put her through before she ended up in this place.

"But you did," Raven purred. "And for that you must be punished."

She leaned in closer. "I can protect you from 'A.' I can make you feel safe. But you must promise to obey the rules and do as you are told."

If Hanna was her usual self, she'd, perhaps unwisely, tell Raven to go to hell. But she wasn't that person right now. She was afraid of everything, especially a visitor who seemed to enjoy torture.

"I always obey the rules," she said quietly.
