Valentine gave her students a soft little smile when they settled into theirs seats once again for their grammar class, most of it sympathetic because not even her subtle ways of trying to make the tedious curriculum interesting felt like enough (unless you were a complete nerd about this sort of thing like the teacher.

"Alright, guys," she said, once the clock had ticked over to precisely the time to stop, and she stood up from her desk to pick up the sheath of papers in front of her. There was a slight pause, as if something was about to swell up out of her mouth that may have sounded like music, but she was able to hold it back. Somehow, she didn't think Umbridge would approve of her busting out into a song about gerunds in the middle of a Very Serious Test day.

"I hope you all remembered to study, because you'll recall we've got our test today, rounding out our study of irregular verbs with a focus on the variations of the word 'lay.'"

Man, how she wished she could trust her students enough to make a comment about getting laid here, but, alas. She started to hand out the papers.

"Keep you eyes on your own paper, and keep quiet. That should certainly quell any desire you may have to feel musical today. When your finished, hand in your test and sit quietly until the period is over, then you may all leave."

Again, just the quickest flash of sympathy for them, but not enough that they could make a case for it. She moved back to the desk, sat in the chair, and nodded. "You may begin now."

At least "Miss Wiggin" has taken the time to infuse the test itself (http://www.chompchomp.com/irregular06/irregular06.htm) with a little bit of life.

Sholeh had studied hard for the test, so she was able to finish it quickly, even with her sisters bickering in her head about the right answers.

Glancing up at the clock, though, and seeing how much time was left, Sholeh wished she'd taken longer.

Dave took the test, waiting for it to be over so he could go lay down in his dorm room again. If anyone asked him why he seemed anxious, he would lie about it.

Perhaps it's just best to take your time with the test, because there's definitely no early dismissal when you're finished.

Dave took some time on the test, but clearly not enough. So he laid his head on his desk without making eye contact with anyone.

Who is blonde now. DEAL WITH IT.

I always knew I saved those Baby Doll icons for a reason...

Though now I'm picturing Rocket!Turtle, too, and it's pretty freaking awesome in my head.
