Detention, Depths of the Castle, Tuesday

Another bright, shining, and pink day had begun for the prisoners guests being held in detention, and while the morning started off the same as the day before, there was a strange sort of feeling in the air once people began waking up. A kind of... musical feeling, in fact.

Umbridge might have taken over the island, but the island still had a mind of her own, thank you very much.

Cassidy tried to scramble further away from Elle. She always tried this and it always failed, but she couldn't not try to fight back.

Elle knew it was wrong to like Cassidy, to more than like her, but she still did. Maybe that was why she spent so much time with Cassidy in particular.

"Don't pull away," she whispered, grateful for real words and not song.

Cassidy's forehead wrinkled because Elle's command was nicer than she usually said them. For some reason, that made her even more frightened than she had been.

Elle really just wanted a friend -- all she had was Cassie, and as much fun as Cassie was, she had a feeling the other girl didn't really like her, was just using her for something. But she was what Elle had, so she lived with it.

That probably wasn't the smartest things she could have said.

Elle looked positively hurt. "I hope you survive in here forever," she crooned. "All lost and alone and isolated from the land and everything that keeps you sane and who you are."

That thought hurt her deeply, but she didn't let the hurt show on her face.

"Even if I do, I will still be better and saner than you are. No matter how lost and isolated from the land I am, I will never be as tainted and have a heart as ugly and cruel as yours."

Cassidy, what have we said about not taunting the crazy who has a fixation on you?

No she didn't, Elle, but you're not aware of that right now.

"And I may be tainted and cruel, but guess what else I am?" She gave a not at all sane smile. "I'm free to come and go as I please."

"No she didn't, Elle," Cassidy said softly. "She's lied to you. She's a fraud and doesn't care about you."

Cassidy's lips tightened. "Then why don't you go."

"She gave me something to do with myself!" Elle was shaking with outrage.

"Because you're fun to play with, that's why I don't go."

"Yes, to be a thrice-cursed annoyance to others." Cassidy kept pushing at her buttons.

There went the electricity to the head again.

Elle admired the effort, but it wasn't going to work. She wasn't in the mood to let it this time.

Cassidy tried to hold her hands against her head so that she could maybe blunt the effect of Elle's shocks to her head and body. She knew that Elle was now more even determined that she scream and she couldn't escape that.
