Library, Friday [07/06]

After hearing about some of the things people had had to deal with in the library lately, Billy was very glad things were quiet when he went in today. He started by putting the returned books back on the shelves, and then sat down at the desk... and discovered every book he'd put back sitting in a pile again.

At least it was still quiet?

"Thor Thor? Like with the hammer and the shouting and everything?" Topher... might have spotted a few stories about him on Tumblr. Maybe. Shut up. "And her name's Ace. She's all sciencey and likes blowing things up and stuff."

"A girl who likes blowing things up? That's awesome! As long as you don't, you know, take out anything important," Billy said with a laugh. "It's totally Thor with the shouting and the blondeness and he's super awesome."

"Nah, just the art room in her old school," Topher said with a wave of his hand. "By accident."

Okay then, Topher.

"And you should, you know, get his autograph or something. Or just suck up to him a lot. Because he's really cool." Cough. "...According to Tumblr."

"I don't want to ask him for his autograph. That'd be weird. But I know a lot about Asgardian myths so...sucking up might happen. I'm glad Tumblr knows how amazing he is," Billy said. "You know if you blow up any of the rooms here, you might get kicked out of school, right?"

"Yeah, don't worry, we're not gonna," Topher promised. "Maybe a patch of the Preserve-- nope. No. Not that either."

SOMETIMES HE HAD COMMON SENSE.

"Anyway, she's currently a wolf puppy. Who I'm babysitting. So that's a thing."

"Awww, that's both adorable and terrible. At least she turned into something cute?" Billy said. "I can think of worse animals to be."

Which naturally raised an important question. "Have you ever turned into anything?"

"No, thank goodness," Billy said, looking around quickly like talking about it might make him turn. "I mean, aside from that time as a pony, but that was everyone."

"Lucky," Topher said. "I've been a gopher and... some kind of primate. Lemur, maybe. It sucked." Although... "Well, when you were a pony you were purple. So that kind of is suffering."

"Yeah, it was pretty embarrassing. Wait," Billy said, "you remember what I looked like as a pony?"

"Duh." Stop being such a creeper, Topher. "You were light purple, Tony was... I think red and yellow with his chest thing looking like a shiny blue sheriff's badge, except for when it happened this year because then he was stuck in his suit the whole time, Peter was sort of grey-blue, and I was turquoise. And Kate who used to go here was randomly not a pony at all. Which I still think was unfair."

"That's like, totally amazing," Billy said, looking at Topher with awe. "Sometimes, I really wish I had your brain."

Topher grinned. "You know, I so don't hear that enough," he declared. "I mean, I should, because hi, genius, but no, it's all, 'Topher, why aren't you more empathetic?' and 'Topher, your difficulty making emotional connections makes you hard to like.'" It was possible he was paraphrasing there. Just possible. "But I can remember things like what color pony the person-I-might-be-dating was for a weekend a year ago, so I say I win."

Billy blushed at that description of himself and reached over to play with the container of paper clips on the desk. "Well, I think it's the job of people-you-might-be-dating to compliment you. In ways you like, I mean, not just randomly."

"Huh." That sounded easy enough. "Well... you have really cool shirts. And nice hair. And you're sort of a badass."

Billy blushed harder and ran a hand through his hair. "Not a lot of people call me badass," he admitted. "Even though it's totally true."

"'Cause most people suck," Topher proclaimed. "Or they're kind of dumb. Which is the same thing." Okay then. "Oh, and you're also, you know, good at kissing. Which hopefully other people have told you before 'cause it's really true. Like, really. A lot." Beat. "Possibly more than the badass thing."

"Well, um, I would have had to have kissed other people to have heard that."

Yeah, that wasn't helping with the blushing either.

"But, I'm glad you think I'm good at it. You are too."

"Oh." Huh. "Um. I haven't either? I mean, not for real. In real circumstances."

LIKE THAT WAS SUCH A HUGE SURPRISE.

"All the practicing probably helps," he decided. "For us both."

"I like the practicing. It's really fun," Billy admitted. "And I like that we both have the same amount of experience. It kind of makes things better."
