Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of large umbrellas set up for those who didn't enjoy a good pelting of various summer related materials. Because some people are weird like that.

There was also a splendid selection of food and beverages under a canopy to keep from ingesting suntan lotion. See? Your faculty thought of everything. Except how to make the island behave.

That you'll have to deal with.

Be haughty and Force-sensitive.

And alive. Atton had a habit of forming random grudges against living people purely because they were alive.

"That's kind of a leap you're making there," he said, "I've just been trying to make conversation."

"You might want to try it without talking down to the person you're conversing with," she advised. And feeling talked down to always raised her hackles because no one ever even tried that with her.

She was fifteen and - as far as Atton knew the world - stupidly naive about a lot of things that, denial or not, reminded him far too much of the Jedi. Of course he was going to talk down to her - he'd had enough people like her try to talk down to him in their time.

(Atton might have taken a little too well to the Sith life in his time)

"If I think you're saying something worth talking down to, I'm going to talk down to you," Atton replied. "You're the one acting like you've got a mynock riding on your ass."
notconflicted: (seriously?)

"I'm not 'acting like' anything," Sia shot back. "And talking down to someone implies that you think you're right or that you know what you're talking about, when you don't. If you don't like my opinion, that's fine, but you have no right to treat someone as lesser than you because of it."

"You don't have a damned idea what I know," Atton shot back. "You think everybody's going to treat you with respect just because you can square your back and swing a lightsaber?"
notconflicted: (so very serious)

"No, because I try to treat others with respect. Even when they make it extremely difficult."

Ahem.
suitably_heroic: (lsp: oh you know)

Stop agitating people, Atton. One day it's going to wind you up stuck in a Force-powered cell while everyone else on the station gets horribly murdered.

... actually, bad example.

He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I can tell," he said.
notconflicted: (telling you how it is)

It was a little disappointing to think she'd probably never be able to have a conversation with him that didn't end this way. Which naturally was totally never her fault, nope.

She sighed. "Enjoy the rest of your picnic. Try not to judge anyone too hard before you actually know something about them."

"I might, if you follow your own advice," Atton called back. "Give it a shot."

He was going to have to learn how to walk out on these conversations instead of kind of relishing needling her until she decided she'd had enough.
