There were plenty of large umbrellas set up for those who didn't enjoy a good pelting of various summer related materials. Because some people are weird like that.

There was also a splendid selection of food and beverages under a canopy to keep from ingesting suntan lotion. See? Your faculty thought of everything. Except how to make the island behave.

That you'll have to deal with.

"You've... met aliens." That put Ace one up on all the other humans she'd met, she supposed. Though it was odd-- it was one thing to be told about the 'inter-dimensional nexus', and something else to. Well.

"Some, yeah." Ace nodded, then quickly saved herself from a shirt full of melted blueberry ice by licking the pop in her hand before continuing. "I got blown off to space in the far future for a bit, but I was stuck on a trading colony. Not a lot of exciting types coming through to buy freezers."

It was... hard, making sense of this human's meandering conversation. "You... went to the future?" she hedged. "So there are humans traveling around the galaxy in the future?"

She was so confused.

"Dunno," Ace admitted. "You'd think so, but I didn't see anyone else from Earth. There's some aliens out there that look a lot like us, though."

"I have never seen aliens that look like you," Liara admitted. "I mean, they say the quarians had the head--" she waved at her own crest in a way that mimicked hair, "... fur? There's a word for it, I know there is. That. They have that under their helmets."

Ace had most of hers tucked up under a baseball cap to keep the suntan lotion rain out of it, but there were plenty of wisps falling into her face. "Hair?" She pulled off the cap and let it fall down.

"Yes. That," Liara said. "...I'm sorry. I'm not entirely sure what the protocols are for... interacting with a new species."

"Probably not telling them what colour they are like they don't already know," Ace answered, snorting at herself. "Protocol's not my specialty, you might've noticed."

Liara touched her forehead and shut her eyes briefly. "And I yelled at you for it," she muttered.

She was going to find a way to make it her fault somehow.

"Oh no, my delicate feelings are crushed!" Ace learned...relatively fast? Fast enough to add, "Humans call that sarcasm."

Liara squinted. "Do you do that very often?"

That was a Liara question. Most asari would probably not have as much trouble with the idea.

"I'll try to keep in mind that you're not used to it," Ace promised...mostly unsarcastically. "God knows I've got some practice with that, after the last boss I had."

"You're welcome." Hey, even Ace could drum up that much formality. "So what's your name, then? Or--" And this time she was actually serious, after all this talk of protocol. "--is that rude to ask where you come from? I don't mean to be."
