Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of large umbrellas set up for those who didn't enjoy a good pelting of various summer related materials. Because some people are weird like that.

There was also a splendid selection of food and beverages under a canopy to keep from ingesting suntan lotion. See? Your faculty thought of everything. Except how to make the island behave.

That you'll have to deal with.

"That's a good point, too," Britta said with a nod. "Is any of the food small enough for her? I mean, a regular cookie has got to be like the equivalent of a giant giant cookie for us."

"True," Frank noted, nodding thoughtfully. He was starting to feel as though he should be writing this down. "Maybe I can hook her up with some bags of the the little bite-size ones? Those and... mini-carrots, that kind of thing. Somehow I don't see her being able to handle a knife and fork very well."

So... apparently Frank and Britta were becoming Arietty's parents or something. That was new.

"It would have to be the sliced up carrots," Britta decided, "the ones for salads that are like shavings, you know? Ohmygod, but how perfect would those cute little mini cupcakes at the bakery be for her? I bet we can find a lot of mini foods."

"Oh, and donut holes!" Frank added, actualy doing the nerdy thing now and taking out his shiny new phone to get this all down. It would take an insanely long time, given the fact that the touchscreen continued to baffle him, but he'd get there. "And for drinks, she should probably stick to juice boxes and stuff, I guess," he added thoughtfully as he tapped away. "Since anything in a glass, she could probably drown in just as easily as drink it."

Britta nodded. "There's always baby corn, too," she mused. "And quail eggs, if she's into that."

"And caviar maybe," he added. "If she's a fancy tiny person."

"Ooooh," said Britta, "good one. Do you think, if we all turned into ponies again, she'd turn into a wee little horse, too?"

"Maybe doll-sized," Frank said thoughtfully. "Which would be bad if one of the teachers' kids decided to, you know. Play with her."

...

"I should probably warn her."

"Children in general are best to be avoided," Britta said with a sage-like tone.

...But cats, apparently, were okay.

"Man, it would take some major adjustment if you were only a quarter of a foot tall. I'd invite her to go party or something to break her in, but I'd be afraid she'd get lost."

Britta's priorities were deeply, deeply askew.

"Maybe if she stuck to the tables the entire time?" Frank ventured. "Of course, that would require the island to actually have a party."

Which... so far, no.

"Hey," said Britta, "when there isn't a party, you go out and find one. But maybe that's not a bad idea. Maybe Fandom Island's a little overdue for a good raver."

Oh god, Britta. Seriously. Oh god.

"That sounds fun," Frank said, like the eager little puppy that he was. "You want to... maybe host one?"

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"You want to...maybe help me host one?" Britta asked, grinning eagerly at Frank. "I'm thinking abandoned warehouse. It could be pretty off the hook."

"Sure!" said Frank excitedly, unaware as he was of the fact that partying with Britta could go horribly or it could go horribly. Also, it would probably not be the kind of party he had in mind. "I can get us some punch and cookies and stuff from the store. And napkins and tablecloths and... do you have a record player?"

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Frank. You were so adorable.

"Even better," said Britta, "I've got a CD player. Okay, you can handle all of that stuff, I look into seeing what'll take to get one of those warehouses party-ready, and then we'll hash out the details a little later, deal? We probably want to let the new kids settle in a little before we totally blow their minds."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2012)

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Britta. Like CD players were any less antiquated than record players nowadays.

"Deal!" Frank agreed, only barely managing to keep from bouncing. Because he was a huge dork and he was going to host a high school party, okay? "We can have it in a few weeks in a few weeks. Oh man, we can even print invitations and have a guest list and maybe even find a bouncer! This is going to be so rad."

Frank, stop squeeing. Stop before you hurt yourself.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2012)

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now a bouncer I can get down with," Britta nodded, because in her mind, the bouncer had very big sexy arms. "Printing invitations..." She pulled a skeptical face. "What we want to do is print flyers, but we don't post them. We'll make slide them under doors, but, for the most part, we have to leave them in conspicuous places where people will see them, but it looks like they weren't supposed to see them. That way, they think it's some really cool hip underground thing...which is is...and will be more excited to go and tell all their friends."

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"That makes sense!" Did it, though? Did it really? "So it won't be a RSVP kind of party. More a show-up-if-you-want-to party."

Yes, Frank. Yes, exactly.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2012)

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or a show-up-if-you're-awesome party," Britta suggested with a sense that the only people who could throw a party like that were pretty damn awesome themselves.

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-07-01 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Clearly," Frank agreed. "Since otherwise why would we be running it?"

He grinned and clapped his hands together once, looking very pleased with himself. "So this'll be fun. Good planning," he said, offering a hand for Britta to high-five.

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-07-02 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Grinning from ear to ear, Britta was more than happy to take Frank up on that high five.

And then...oh, wait...what's this?

"Turning it into a snake."

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-07-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Frank... did his best to mimic that. "...Is this a future thing?"

No, Frank. Britta was just a weirdo.
