The Library is Open (02/09)

Rory toddled sleepily into the library after ACJ, and took her usual position behind the desk.

Library's open. It has books. Go read or something.

Jack sneaks up behind her at some point, and mock-whispers, "Boo!"

"Ah!" Parker jumps and whirls, then grins in relief when she sees it's him. "Jack! God, I must be tired, I didn't even hear you!"

"Not getting enough sleep, Parker? Need me to tuck you in?" Jack grins at her. "How are the, ah, war wounds? And when were you going to tell me about going after Darla and Drusilla?"

"God, I'd *love* that." Parker sighed, and palmed her face. "Now?" She relented and said, "The first time I saw you afterward, that's when. It's been crazy. And I was afraid you were going to yell. A lot of people have been doing that."

"I'll have to come by tonight," Jack said. "After I whine about not being included. But seriously, Parker -- both Darla and Drusilla have messed with me. I wish I'd known what was going on. Maybe I'm not badass, but I could have at least kissed your boo-boos to make them better."

She smiled at him, and grabbed his hand. "Yeah. I'm getting that I screwed up there." She shook her head. "I never told Michael stuff until after, but you're not him," Parker added, her voice quieter. "And God, if we'd managed to take them out, I would've liked for you to be there to know it."

He wrapped his fingers around hers. "Yeah. Not Michael. Thank God. But as much as I'd love to have been there to see the Toothsome Duo go down... I keep getting chills at the thought that you'd have gotten yourself messily dead or something, and I'd never know what happened to you. You're not getting out of our until-one-or-the-other-of-us-finds-true-love pact that easily."

Parker looked down, her face heating up with a combination of embarassment and relief. She squeezed his hand and shook her head. "I am way luckier in having you around than I knew." She looked up at him. "Scratches, bruises -- see? But otherwise, I swear: I'm okay. I was careful. We all were." She studied him, and smiled. "Want me to prove it to you?"

"I'm glad you were careful. And I think I still need to kiss all your boo-boos. But perhaps not in the library surrounded by cameras so the guy in the tube can see." He grinned and dropped his voice to a sexy growl. "How about I follow up on that promise to tuck you in? Then you can prove anything you like."

"That sounds perfect." Parker grinned, and dropped her own voice to a purr. "We could give him a preview of what he's going to miss?" she asked, twining her fingers in the hair at his neck.

He pulled her closer. "Seems kind of cruel, given that he's a floating head in a tube. Then again, if you only get to live vicariously... you might as well enjoy it." He dipped his head and kissed her, putting a nice amount of effort into it. "Like that?"

Parker pulled away slowly, and lazily opened her eyes, licking her lips. "Very much like that. What we do for our administrators," she said, dimpling at him. "My place, tonight?"

Jack smiled back. "I'll be there with bells on. Figuratively speaking, that is."

"I might be more literal about it." Parker got to her feet with a shimmy. "I have a set of belly dancer decorations just going begging to be worn."

Jack started laughing. "You know, if you were worried that I'd not show or something? So not a problem now. I have got to see this." He winked and turned to head for the door.

"Not worried. But I like my sure things," Parker said, letting her finger trace down his as he pulled away. "See you tonight!"
