Creature Languages, 02/09, Period 3

"You have now learned to speak, if haltingly, in Dragon, Rat and Spider. Those are all difficult tongues, with rich histories and their own quirks -- from the choppy vowels of Spider, to the crooning of Rat, to the rhyming of the dragons. I applaud your sincere efforts to learn.

Today, I would like for each of you to pick a so-called nursery rhyme and translate it into the Creature language of your choice. I trust that you will have no problems in finding appropriate substitutes for words that may not be on your vocabulary sheets."

Pippi is translating "Pop Goes the Weasel" into Dragon.

She's very focused and biting her lip.

"Oh, of course, Professor. Paige could help me, if she liked."

Paige nods, "sure I can do that, I still have my notes" somewhere

Xander is scanning the nursery rhymes desultorily and wondering how to translate something that already rhymes into formal dragon, because his mun likes rhyming, but but but... and not touching In Spring I Look Gay with a ten foot Swede.

Jake contemplates hickory dixkory dock (http://www.zelo.com/family/nursery/hickory.asp) in dragon.

Xander pages Doctor Typo McFreud happens to glance up and clearly notices Jake's presence. He even starts to lift a hand, then a rather odd look comes over his face, as if he's simultaneously uncomfortable, uncomfortable, and uncomfortable. And also contemplating mortal peril and the avoidance thereof.

He quickly looks back down at his book of nursery rhymes, and stares at I Had A Little Nut Tree like it might change to something less WTF-ily titled if he squints hard enough.

Paige decides to translate Hey Diddle Diddle into spider, which despite how bad she is at it is actually her best creature language.

Cordelia ponders for a while before deciding to translate "Mary had a Little Lamb" into Rat.

She sighs and gets to work.

Walter stares at the page and mutters to himself occasionally.

Flipping through his books, he grumbles rather a lot about the foolishness of choosing something with the words "Taffy" and "Welshman."

Blair tries to focus on translating a piece but keeps glancing at a list (http://lovechildblair.livejournal.com/7508.html) in his notebook and looking for Molly.

Draco isn't feeling well today so he chooses "Fee Fi Foe Fum" to translate into rat. Nice and short.

Molly decided to translate Three Young Rats With Black Felt Hats (http://www.zelo.com/family/nursery/felthats.asp) into Rat as it seemed rather appropriate. She had to make a guess on what a demi-veil was though. She went with hood as there didn't seem to be a Rat word similar enough.

"I'm good." Blair bounced happily. "What was wrong yesterday?"

Molly made a face. "Western Civ test. I don't think it went well." She shrugged a little.
