William had spent the weekend ~~handwavily~~ as a pony, running various sorts of endurance and strength tests on himself. As one did.

Today, he was back in the library as usual for a Monday, and while the thunderstorms had thankfully cleared up, they'd been replaced by rainbows.

The library was open, and colourful!

Who is flipping through the latest issue of Wired.

Rilla walked into the library with Jims on her hip looking decidedly deflated. "Hello, Mr. Murdoch."

William looked up from his magazine as he heard someone enter, and smiled broadly once it registered who it was.

"Miss Blythe!" He started, and then frowned. "Oh dear. Is something the matter?"

Rilla sighed. "Walter has joined up," she said. "I was home for a few days last week."

She paused. "Well, last week here. It was several weeks there."

"I've never quite understood how that worked," William said, and then blinked, because that wasn't the point. "I'm sorry to hear that about Walter. Are you- how are you holding up?"

Her smile was a little watery. "I've had better weeks," she understated, "but there's a call more insistent than that of our family's love, and he's answering it. I can't hold that against him."

"I suppose not, but I can't imagine that's all that comforting, at times," he managed a bit awkwardly. People skills: not his strong suit. "Might there be anything I could do to help?" he offered.

"Perhaps a distraction?" Rilla asked shyly. "Is there a new movie out?"

"A distraction I can provide!" William said cheerfully. "There's- something about 'superheroes' out, I believe? I've no idea if that's up your alley."

"That sounds lovely," Rilla declared immediately.

She had no idea if she'd like the movie at all but would love the chance to get out.

"Oh, excellent!" William beamed at her. A rainbow apparently chose that moment to spontaneously appear on the circulations desk, arcing off into the stacks. "When shall I pick you up, then?"

"...is that a rainbow?" asked the distractable Rilla.

"They've been doing that all day," William shared. "I've no idea how, but then, I've no idea how this island does half the things it does."

"Did I miss anything particularly odd this weekend?" Rilla wondered.

"That depends," William said, blushing furiously, "on if you'd classify 'most of the island spent the previous two days as ponies' as particularly odd."

Rilla laughed for the first time in a week. "Really?!"

"Really," William said with a nod. "I may, possibly, possess photographic evidence."

"Does that mean you weren't a pony, Mr. Murdoch?" she teased.

"No," he coughs. "It means I figured out how to work the time-delay function on a camera, even with hooves." Because of course he would.

Rilla laughed again. "In that case, I insist on seeing these pictures."

"Well, if you insist," William said. Had Rilla not been so clearly in need of distraction, it was entirely possible he wouldn't have been as forthcoming with the pictures. As it was, though, he was using the library computer to pull up the pictures (http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/117402455/29084097) he'd taken. For science.

"You had a little hat!" Rilla squealed.

Maybe there's a pot of gold at the end of those rainbows?

When he pings in.

Pony!Will was supposed to have adventures yesterday. And then I ended up going shopping for five hours, ugh.
