Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Spicy isn't something my people's cusine is known for," Ulrik admitted. "But perhaps I ought to give it a try, all the same."

[ooc: NO I HATE SP. I mean yes, totes fine.]

"It is quite new for me, as well," Thomasina explained. "Within the last few days, in fact, after finding myself in the present time."

It felt oddly liberating to be comfortable just saying that, between her own roommate being time-tossed and Luke's assurances that it was normal.

"My favorite dish has always been rabbit pie, but it seems that such meats are much less common than I am accustomed."

"Oh!" Ulrik smiled, pleased at finding some common ground. "I take that to mean you're a down-timer as well?" English, if he wasn't mistaken, given the accent. But still. It was rather a comfort to know he wasn't the only one to be unexpectedly in the future.

Given the context, Thomasina could decipher the meaning of that, she thought. "From two hundred years in the past, yes, if that is what 'down-timer' refers to," she agreed. "There seem to be a few of us, though my roommate is far less farflung."

"Well, that is interesting," Ulrik mused. "Ulrik," he introduced himself. "Of Denmark, and 1636."

Thomasina blinked. "I hadn't realised English was... what you are speaking, at that point. Have you been in the present for some time, then?"

"Only since this morning," Ulrik informed her. "But it is the first language of my future brother-in-law. He is the one who taught me." While a POW of the king of Denmark. But details.

Blink. Click. "Would he be an... 'up-timer,' then?" Thomasina asked. "As you already seem to have a term for those of us gone this way, it seems reasonable that one who has taught you such modern English might have gone the other direction."

"Correct, on both counts," Ulrik confirmed. "He, along with the other residents of an American town, was somehow- transported to central Thuringia, about five years ago from my perspective."
