Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

It could be hard to keep up.

"I'm pretty sure we've met before, but..." Rapunzel flushed slightly. "I kind of forgot your name?" She sounded even more embarrassed than she had about bumping into Ryan. "I'm Rapunzel?" Could Ryan forgive her?

Ryan could definitely forgive her!

"Ryan. It's supposed to be a good name for both girls and boys, but most people are surprised to find out I'm a girl," she said. "But I'll try to remember your name this time. I, uh, keep calling you 'Hair Girl' in my mind."

Rapunzel giggled. "I suppose that's descriptive, at least?"

"I get to call you 'curly hair girl', to be fair, though, right?"

It was only fair!

"Fair enough," said Ryan, grinning. "Looks like we both managed to survive the whole year! I thought I was going to lose it when the school board was visiting. I hated that uniform."

"I didn't mind the uniform so much myself," Rapunzel admitted. But then wrinkled her nose. "Except for the shoes. I'm still not used to those." Hence being barefoot today!

"Yeah, the shoes were kind of annoying. I'm more used to sandals myself," said Ryan. She glanced at Rapunzel's feet. "I've heard that running barefoot is supposed to be better for your feet, but I've never had the courage to try it myself. Sometimes, though, it seems like my thin little sandals are one step above being barefoot."

"Well, I really like the way it feels? I mean, getting to feel the grass between your toes, or if you're on the beach," which Rapunzel was any chance she got, "the sand, is the best!" It was awesome!

"Yeah, that's definitely an advantage that you don't get from sandals," said Ryan. "I haven't visited the beach yet. That's something I should really do soon."

Rapunzel's eyes widened. "You've been here as long as I have and haven't seen the beach yet?" That was terrible!

"It just never seemed like a good time, but I should make more of an effort," said Ryan. After all, she was only around for part of the summer last year, and she spent the whole time plotting to run away and re-join her parents.

"What about tomorrow?" Rapunzel suggested. "I could... show you around?"

Around the... um... beach. With its sand and its water... Which really needed a tour guide.

"That sounds like it could be fun," said Ryan. "Plus it might be good to have a plan so I don't keep postponing it!"

Rapunzel giggled. "I don't know if you can call 'meeting at the beach' a plan, but... we could totally try it!"

"It'll be a nice way to relax a little bit before workshops start," said Ryan.

As if she needed more rest after two weeks of break time since final exams.
