Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Karolina hoped it didn't somehow seem stalkerish that she'd noticed someone else partaking of the vegetarian options, too. It was just hard for her not to notice these things, when she didn't know too many vegetarians or vegans outside her fami-- well, apart from herself. These days.

After a while of restocking her plate, she drifted over to Britta.

"Hi," she said, because it was always a good opening. "Do they always have this much food at these things?"

"Hey." Britta smiled, kicking her feet up from off of the picnic table to make room for the other girl and sit up, because it was good to have company and she was just picking up a really good vibe from the other girl. "And, yeah, they do. It's kind of ridiculous, if you think about all the children all over the world that don't even have enough to eat and go to bed starving every night, but sometimes get the leftovers to send to a local food pantry. I'm Britta, by the way. You're new, right?"
solarhippie: ([pos] Free spirit.)

"Um, yeah," Karolina admitted. Not that it wasn't already obvious from everything. She took a seat next to Britta and smiled. "I'm Karolina. And now also really hoping a school that puts money into serving this much food at a picnic also engages in charity work."

"Their priorities are totally screwed up half the time," said Britta with a roll of her eyes, "but that's what you get with any large socio-economic venture that involves brainwashing the youth and depending on the all-mighty dollar to do it. Still, it's got its good points, and they could be doing a whole lot worse. I mean, the whole idea of a traditional education to succeed in the world is a great big myth perpetuated the the patriarchy of capitalism, but Fandom does a pretty good job of giving you more real life experience than spoon-feeding you corporate drivel out of approved mind-numbing owner's manuals called textbooks."
solarhippie: ([neu] Attentively.)

It was bad that Karolina was a little awed. It was bad, right?

But it was a rare thing to come across anyone who cared about that kind of thing. Especially since everything with the Pride, since frankly, they'd all had things a little closer to home to deal with.

"Yeah, I heard that," she nodded, picking at some of the food on her plate. "I mean, the real world thing. Even if I'm not sure how talking cats relate to my experience of the real world..."

Britta pondered that one for a moment and realized that she truly had nothing.

"Yeaaaaaaaah," she said, looking almost apologetic. "I'm still not entirely convinced that that pink pony isn't just a really prolonged acid trip. But, hey, maybe look at it this way. It's going to be pretty hard to phase us after all this is said and done?"
solarhippie: ([pos] Sounds like a fun idea.)

Karolina had thought she'd already been at that stage. This day was proving her wrong. Really, really wrong.

"Maybe," she allowed with a renewed little smile. "I'd prefer to think of it that way, anyway. It's too early for me to get too pessimistic."

"Exactly," Britta said, grinning back. "We're still way too young to really pull of the completely jaded and bitter thing So, are you excited? Did you meet your roommate yet? How'd that turn out?"
solarhippie: ([neu] Yeaaah I am not sure.)

"My roommate... is a ghost." She chewed on her lip and looked a wee bit unertain about it. "I don't know, I guess it'll be interesting?"

And it wasn't like it'd be like living in a haunted room, right?
