Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Well, that's a bit of this and that, really," Thelma admitted. "The food is good, the weather is fine, but I was admittedly lead to believe that the school would be a bit more unusual. But then again, pleasantly surprised to make the acquaintance of another person who can see me. You're not dead, I hope?"

She eased into the big things. Sometimes. But not really today.

Mercy gave her an odd look. "Dead? No. And why wouldn't I -"

She stopped herself and actually used her nose and senses.

"Wait. You're a ghost?"

Hey, she once spent 20 minutes talking to someone she didn't realize was a ghost before her mother came by and asked why she was talking to herself.

"Last I checked, you had to have your third eye open in some way to be able to see me," Thelma explained. "And I've already met one ghost here, so I thought I'd double-check. This does sadly mean no high-fives for us, I think."

She actually looked a tiny bit disappointed in that.

"I think it's just part of something I was born with," Mercy said slowly. She couldn't quite explain the whole 'Walker' thing without explaining about shifting into a coyote and she still wasn't ready to have that generally known, so...

She reached out gingerly toward Thelma, but while she could feel something where Thelma's arm was, she couldn't feel, you know, arm. "I guess not," she said, looking a bit disappointed too.

"I see," Thelma said, but she had her suspicions. Mainly that Mercy was a witch, actually. "And oi, don't just go sticking your hand in me. That tends to tingle, thank you very much."

She did, however, snicker a bit to show she wasn't really upset.

Nope, just a Walker.

"Sorry," Mercy said, blushing a little. "I just wondered and sometimes when I think something I just... you know."

"I at least buy her a drink first before I go trying to stick my hand in them," Thelma said with a stronger laugh.

Mercy laughed. "Remind me to buy you a drink sometime, as an after the fact sort of thing."

"Ooooh, is that a promise?" Thelma said, all smile. "Well I shall definitely remind you. I never turn down a drink from a pretty girl."

Mercy blinked at her. "Okay... But sure, I'll buy you a drink. Though I must admit I've never seen a ghost before who could eat and drink."

"Well apparently I'm lucky that way. Unlucky that most people can't see me, of course," she said. "Or touch me. All that sort of terrible luck. And the being dead part in general."

"It can't be much fun," Mercy agreed. "But at least you can interact somewhat? Most I know can't really do that."

"I really need to meet all these ghosts people keep telling me about," Thelma said. "Apparently we're all very different. Like there's completely different ghost rules out there and we all get different ones."

"I know there's at least a few different types in my world," Mercy offered.

"Well hopefully they've not biased you too much against me," Thelma said with a smile. "If they have, well, I'll just have to work extra hard to get you on my side."

Mercy shrugged. "I've never had any issues with ghosts. None of the ones I've met have been quite this self-aware, though. I'd have to guess you're a lot different 'cause I can't see any of them, well, attending school."
