Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

Valentine was not at all surprised and actually somewhat impressed by this endeavor. And since no one knew she was coming back this summer, she tried to approach the great fortress of enchiladas from a blind spot.

"And the sad thing," she said, "is that I know you will probably still eat every single one of those, too."

"Turns out I didn't have enough bus fare," Valentine offered with a grin. "But that's okay; I like the place anyway."

See, and that was why Valentine loved Ben and considered him like another brother. Because he did things that most people's little brothers did when they were happy, like give you hugs and eat way too many enchiladas. She laughed, happy to accept the hug.

"For a few months, anyway," she said. "I got sick of waiting on Eros, and then Ender had to go and decide to stick around and teach this summer."

Valentine had to laugh a little at that. "Whoa, now. You're not suggesting he might go so far as to do something like smile, are you?"
