Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

"TV in color? Nice." Frank was easily pleased by the advancements of the future, apparently. "I'm Frank, by the way." He nodded toward Alex's ginormous plate. "Mind if I try one?"

Alex angled his body so his plate of nachos was further away from Frank. "Hey," he said, sounding almost scandalized. "Get your own. I saw these first."

It was a pretty enormous plate of nachos but that wasn't the point.

"Whoa, okay," Frank said, holding up both hands. His smile didn't falter, though, mainly because, fine, if someone came between him and a plate of good food he'd probably be pretty defensive. "I hear that. Don't even worry about it; I will go... find my own."

"There's plenty," Alex told him, relaxing a fraction, "and it's all good. The food's always pretty good here. But some of it might be kinda spicy if you're not ready for it."

"Spicy," Frank repeated. "Good to know." Man, living without his mom around as a judge of what he would and wouldn't like in the food department was probably going to be kind of a challenge, huh?

He eyed the nearest food table. "Any recommendations?"

He needed his mom to pick his food for him? Alex was judging you, Frank. Or would be if he could read narrative.

"I just said, it's all good," Alex reminded him. "I don't know, get a taco or something."

"Noted," Frank said, offering a grin as he set off for the nearest table of food. Then a little more quietly and mostly to himself: "Just as soon as I figure out which one that is."

"It looks like a U," Alex told him helpfully, because he hadn't meant to chase the kid off and now felt kinda bad.

What, he had great hearing. It was part of the deity package.
