Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Thelma had the good sense to swallow first, and was admittedly pleasantly surprised by the whole 'someone who could see her' business that she responded earnestly.

"Just the normal way, really. You chew then swallow. I'm just lucky in that none of it goes to my hips anymore. Or anywhere, really. I think I might be breaking physics, when it gets down to it."

That did not help Anna at all, despite the fact that, "I'm pretty sure science doesn't come into it."

"That's a fair point, actually," Thelma said with a nod. "But I'm also not sure why you think I couldn't. I mean, I've always been able to. It's a bit weird, really. But I'm getting ahead of myself, because I think really I should be saying hello."

She stood up and offered a hand, hopeful. "Thelma Bates, new resident ghost."

Anna took her hand and introduced herself, "Anna Korlov. Old resident ghost." If her tone was a little dry, it was because, well, she hoped that served as enough of an explanation for Thelma as to why she'd been so concerned about the eating.

Thelma tilted her head slightly to the left, a quizzical expression on her face.

"Well, first, my condolences on the death," she said, rather matter-of-factly. "Second, does that mean you can't actually..." She gestured back at her plate of half-eaten taco. "Not at all?"

"No," Anna said. "No, I can't." There might have been a tinge of 'lucky bitch' in there. Anna still remembered how delicious tacos had been while she was in Kenzi's body.

It was kind of bizarre to be offered condolences by another ghost, but she decided the polite thing would be to return them. Only, awkward. "And, uh, same to you."

"That's really weird," Thelma decided. "I mean, not you offering my condolences, that's just old hat, really. I mean the not being able to eat thing. Maya could. Peggy could. I never got to ask Tom, he actually moved on pretty quickly. And by me rambling there, you now know you are the fourth other ghost I've ever met. Which is actually a bit of a relief, honestly."

Sorry, Anna. Thelma could get a good ramble going. It happened when you were used to talking to yourself.

"I don't know any other ghosts," Anna said with a shrug. Her victims didn't count, they were just echoes from the house. It wasn't like you could hold a conversation with them or anything. "Except you now, I guess. But I'm not like most ghosts anyway. And you're not like most ghosts where I'm from, either. C--someone told me most ghosts wouldn't even know they were dead."

"Well given most people can't even see me, I'm rather reinforced in the idea I'm dead," Thelma said. "Whole tear between the spirit world and the land of the living and all that. Though I suppose technically that should be mostly fixed now."

She stopped herself. "Sorry, rambling again. I tend to, I think. On account of what I said before about most people not seeing me."

Anna had been alone in a house for fifty years. She didn't think it was that great an excuse, but then, she'd never been that much of a talker when she was alive.

"I think you might be a different kind of ghost. Were you cursed?" Anna guessed. It would explain knowing she was dead, but it wouldn't explain why she wasn't trying to kill anyone. Or why apparently most people couldn't see her--Anna was only invisible when she wanted to be--but she guessed the eating thing was a tradeoff.

"Ritually sacrificed by a fallen angel, if that counts," Thelma said. "By way of technicality I was a willing sacrifice, admittedly. But not because I like fallen angels. They tend to be right bastards, actually."

It was definitely a different sort of trade-off. Thelma wouldn't be sure if it would be a trade she'd make, if she thought about it.

Anna just stared for a moment before asking, "And do you know a lot of fallen angels?"

"Well, more than your average person, I imagine," Thelma said. "It's a bit of a story. I think the total is three. Three fallen angels, one normal angel, and he was probably worse than at least two of the three fallen ones. So, angels in general, not a great idea to mess about with."

She smiled. "Personally, I've had way more fun with other ghosts."

This officially just became too weird even for Anna. "I haven't found other ghosts to be any fun at all."

Not you, Thelma.

"We're probably in very different ghost circles," Thelma said. "Though now we're in the same. So I suppose it's time to focus on the positive and the now. A glorious, angel-free now."
