Newbie Shuttle, Portalocity Terminal, BWI (Saturday Morning Fandom Time)

After everyone was done shouting at and/or hugging him to say goodbye – and there had been a lot of both –Victor Mancha had two choices in getting from Los Angeles to BWI. The first was taking a commercial flight, which would have been reassuringly normal.

The problem was that, even if he somehow got past the metal detectors, he suspected his circuitry might count as the kind of portable electronic device that wasn’t very takeoff-and-landing-friendly. He didn’t exactly have an easy off switch, and crashing a plane by mistake seemed like a big step towards super-villainhood.

Which meant he got to the Baltimore airport via portal. He’d never been through one before so he didn’t have much to go by, but it seemed like a nice portal: If nothing else, it smelled far better than Cloak’s ... cloak had. Victor was grateful to know that hadn’t been the state-of-the-art in teleporting.

And now he was on the East Coast other than New York for the first time. Once he’d exhausted the little potential for exploration the terminal had, he sat in a semi-comfortable airport chair, suitcase at his feet, and tried to break the Tetris high score on his phone while keeping watch for any other kids.

[OOC: Operation newbies: Go! I will be slow for a few hours after 5:30 EST, but otherwise around all night.]

Frank, meanwhile, was fresh off his first plane ride ever and a little winded from the experience. God, the stewardesses. The stewardesses.

Look, he was still getting over it.

From there he'd picked up his monogrammed suitcases from baggage (they were his dad's, but therein lay the number-one advantage of sharing initials), and then accepted help from airport security to point him toward the "Portalocity terminal" where he'd taken his connecting portal, and finally reached the spot where he was supposed to meet up with his new classmates for boarding school. He was more than a little wide-eyed and excited, to say the least.

"Hey!" he said, offering Victor a way-too-excited smile and trying not to bounce. "This is the waiting area for Fandom, right?"

"Freshman, yeah," Frank confirmed. He fumbled a little for something to say, because conversations were hard, and then finally thought of what his father would do in a situation and stuck out his hand. "I'm Frank Abagnale. From New York. How about you?"

Uh?

"Yeah, sure," Frank said, wondering if it was that obvious that he was a little nervous. "I mean, it's not like I'm on the other side of the country or anything." Look at him, totally not getting the point of the question. How cute. "Wow, L.A., though. Have you ever seen Bettie Page? That girl is righteous."

"She's not old," Frank defended. "She's like twenty-something. I mean, compared to us, sure, but..."

"Who?"

Cute name, but...

"I'll have to check it out," Frank decided. "I haven't seen a flick in a while. And redheads are always great."

Dorks, the both of them.

"If you're looking for the kids' playing area, it's right down that hall and on till you see the sun set."

Sun. Suns? How many did this place have anyway?

Frank blinked, then laughed. Good-naturedly, because of course Atton was just being friendly, right? Right.

"I guess I'm coming on a little strong, huh? I guess I'm just excited. I've never been away from my parents before."

"You and everybody else in this waiting room, I figure," Atton lied with ease.

Yeah, no, he wasn't being friendly. But whatever, right?

Frank gave an indulging little shrug, because how was he supposed to know? Hopefully that would be taken as a good answer.

"Have you been away from home a lot?" he prompted.

"Not all that much," Atton said, flipping a pazaak card over in his hands. "So obviously some boarding school in the middle of nowhere is a great place to start, right?"

"Totally," Frank said encouragingly. "I hear Baltimore's really fun. Music and everything."
suitably_heroic: (lsp: oh you know)

"Music, huh?"

That sounded like a prompt. To the untrained ear.

To the trained ear it would probably sound a lot more like mockery.

"Yeah," Frank said, nodding. "My dad's been there on business. He was telling me about all the R&B and rock and stuff in the clubs. I'm definitely going to have to go check it out with him when he visits. Or go to a concert or something. You know?"

Frank, you were babbling.

"Yeah, I'll make sure to let my own parents know about that," Atton drawled.

They'd been dead for years, but he really would, Frank. Honest. "Sounds really exciting." Beat. "Wait, arrenbee? Is that some new Bith thing?"

He'd almost miss out on vital information if he wasn't careful.

"Bith thing?" Atton said, waving his hand a little. "I'm not totally up to speed to the music scene on this planet."

"Oh, no, it's just sort of this kind of rock that's--" Hold on. "Did you say planet?"
