Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

"Well, not me," he said and chuckled, giving her a light smile. "She told me you were trying to help with my...thing. I appreciate the effort even if I couldn't find anything."

Tara sighed. "The problem is there's nothing that would work on her and wouldn't screw things up for you," she explained, clearly disappointed. "N-nothing I'm strong enough to try, anyhow. But ... you guys worked it out?"

"I understand," Sam said, giving her a grateful nod. "And we're...well, we're going to try it without me resorting to cutting myself off unless absolutely necessary. See how that works. The...ghosts aren't malicious."

"She said," Tara nodded. "And ... I don't want to cut off your hand trying to trim your fingernails. Or, um, possibly a less disturbing metaphor."

"I appreciate the effort," Sam said with a small smile. "Hopefully it goes well but, if not, I'm sure I can just find another room or something. I don't want to disturb Natalie too much."

"She's tough," Tara reassured him. "I think she can handle it. And I'll be here all summer, so I'll keep looking."
