Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Francine giggled. "Missouri. It's only misery during finals week or when the temperature gets above 95."

Said the girl who grew up in Houston, but that was a dry heta.

"Miz ooo reee," Momoko grinned and gave a thumbs up. "I'm totally still working on all the names! It gives me something to do while waiting for people to show at my work!" Plus she was kind of addicted to checking maps, after the Nothing. "Did you know there's no New Gotham in my world? I checked! We do have a Texas, though. And a Baltimore."

Momoko made hungry eyes at the container of cupcakes. "What are you studying anyway?"

"There's no New Gotham in mine either. Or Old Gotham. And Tokyo City is just Tokyo." Francine pulled the lid off and held out the box. "I'm studying early childhood education, and Katchoo's in the art program. Are you still in the police academy?"

YAY FRANCINE-CUPCAKES!!

"Yep. I've got another year. I'm not sure if I'm going to be an officer or not, though." Momoko reached in and didn't hesitate to take the one with the most icing. "Oh! I totally could have used your help last time I was here! Future kids showed up again!"

She licked icing off her fingers, blinking. "Well, mine were seventeen, so that's not really 'early' anymore is it?"

"Your kids showed up again too?" Francine sighed. "Dinah and her daughter called me on my birthday, but I guess none of mine were around this time."

Bzzzzt. Lily was just calling, you know, her actual mother on her birthday, instead of her mother fifteen years ago.

Momoko patted Francine's arm with her non-cupcake filled hand. "You totally didn't miss anything. It was very creepy! I mean, they were OUR age and calling us mom and dad! Totally different from when they were little."

Momoko tilted her head a moment. "Did I miss your birthday?!"

Francine made a pfft sound. "Don't worry about it; my birthday's on April Fool's Day. Something weird was always happening on it when I was in Fandom; I'm surprised I ever managed to celebrate it here."

"These are totally awesome! Thank you!" Momoko licked her cupcake-y fingers, TOTALLY NOT PLANNING TO BUY SOMETHING AS SOON AS SHE GOT HOME, NOPE! "Hmm. Well no wonder I don't really remember celebrating! Didn't we have, like, invasions or stuff all the time on April Fool's day? I bet you're glad to have a quiet life for a while, huh?"

Well, as much as she could with Katchoo around.
