Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

"Hey dude." Dinah grinned after she was done chatting with the guys. "You're going to enjoy this."

"Oh?" Lucivar asked, giving Dinah a lazy grin. "I look the type who enjoys long ceremonies for people I don't know?"

Dinah cackled, face lit up with mischief. "At my graduation ceremony? We had to fight chimeras. And a couple other monsters. I ended up back-to-back with Morgana taking out a tiger-thing as big as Kaelas. Also, they made us sing. It was hilarious."

"Ah." So much understanding in just one syllable. "So you're saying this might be more my kind of fun after all." Lucivar took the sight shield off of his warblade and tested it with his thumb. "Will we all get to play, you think?"

Dinah snickered as the blade became visible. "Don't know for sure. Last time it was a test just for the graduating students. But I heard there were Vikings -- umm, pirate raiders-- last year, so, maybe?"

"Mother Night."

Lucivar had just had a terrifying thought.

"The coven wants to show up en masse next year for Karla's graduation." The warblade was put away so he could facepalm. Repeatedly. "I don't want to have to deal with all of them next year."

They wouldn't be scared, of course. They would want to join in.

Dinah patted his shoulder comfortingly. Even if her psychic scent was all lemon-ozone-giggle. "Maybe you can ask Prince Saetan to tell them the wrong date? Or. Um. Get them their own section?"

Yeah, she wasn't buying it either.

"Keep laughing, little witch," Lucivar said, not giving a damn that Dinah wasn't actually a witch. "And I'll take back the gift I transported here. Karla asked me to bring something special from back home here for you."

Nyaaah.

Dinah's eyes widened in surprise. "For me? From Kaeleer. Oooooo." She grinned at him, up on her toes. "Weapons? Honey pears?"

"I'm not telling," Lucivar informed her. "Mostly because the witchling would never stop talking about it if I did. You want your present, you go find her. I wash my hands of the whole affair."

He'd only been the messenger! That was his story and he was sticking to it!

...Even if he had insisted that he be there when Karla gave it to Dinah so he could see her face.

"So you do know what it is." Dinah hadn't been sure. Unfortunately, it looked like that was all she'd get out of him. "It's not a copy of some Protocol book, right? ...this reminds me I have to give her what I got her for her birthday."

"Of course I know what it is," Lucivar said. "She couldn't get it without me. You wanna know what it is?"

"Yes pleeeeease, Lucivar." Dinah didn't believe for a minute that kitten eyes would work on him-- he wasn't Jaime, and Priestly always laughed-- but still. "Please?"

Lucivar smiled down at her. "Nope."

Bastard.

"Mean, mean, meeeeean." Dinah sighed in resignation, eyes narrowing. "I'm not telling you what I got her. And! Next time I come visit? You're going to have to wait to open your gift. Yeah-hunh. A while."
