Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

"You realize it would start to make our graduation a little less special, right?" Zayne asked. "Maybe if they have to do two out of the three things.

"Maybe. I just want to share the public embarrassment," she decided. "So how have you been?"

"Well, I got my students to the end of the year and I finished up my holocron, so I have that going for me," Zayne said. "But overall, maybe a little overworked. I think I need to take a little vacation back home."

"Oh, you finished? Good." Since otherwise he'd have to mail it to her and she had no idea when she'd get it. "Just a break then?"

"Yeah, just a week back on Phaedra. I haven't been there since I was brought to the Jedi, so I want to see what it's actually like these days," Zayne said. "But my family's on Dantooine now, so there's probably no reason for me to stay too long."

It was always a little weird to hear things like that when you knew stuff that happened way in the future on Dantooine. "So you'll be back before you know it. Hope it's a good trip."

"I'm sure it will be," Zayne said. Boy was he wrong. "But yeah, stop by MCA later. I have the holocron there."

"Okay, thanks. I'll do that," she said, adding one more thing to the mental to-do list.

"How long are you in town this time?" Zayne asked.

"My portal's out first thing Monday morning," she replied. "I came in on Tuesday but I've really only got until tomorrow left."

"At least you're getting nearly a solid week in," Zayne said. "Hopefully that's enough time to catch up with most people."

It really, really wasn't.

"Sort of. This is probably my last visit for a while. Stuff going on at home," she explained. "There doesn't feel like enough time to do much of anything."

"Oh. Well, do the best you can. It's all you can do. And your best is pretty good if you're even using the ceremony to check in with people," Zayne said.
