Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Okay. So, she had bitched when she'd been reassigned here, but now, this had been ... let's be honest, amazing. So here she was. She'd had two years to be normal again. Normal-ish. She'd had a boyfriend, and friends, and some kick-ass roommates, and an Apathy Club, and this island even let her say goodbye to Reggie, and -- okay, so her allergies were bad today. Or maybe she was just plain choking up.

She took her diploma and waved. And, um, maybe she even smiled. A little.

"GO GEORGE."

It really was amazing, sometimes, just how well Mason's voice could carry when he wanted it to. And if today it happened to be carrying very well all the way from the restrooms...

Look, it was best to not ask. Still.

Oh, Mason. Mason, Mason, Mason.

You just had to roll with Mason. And George did. And fuck, she'd missed him. Okay? And he'd better have missed her, and not just because of the fucking extra work he'd picked up.

So she was going to laugh and wonder what the fuck he was doing and decide not to ask. Because ... it was Mason. And that was why.

It went without saying that there would be clapping and cheering both for George from Jono. After all, she'd been his roommate once. They'd bonded over their mutual... messed-up-ness and apathy and...

Okay, so the apathy thing was a bit of a black mark against Jono when he went and brought cheering into the picture, but sometimes, Apathy could just take a hint and go get stuffed.

George was going to have to ask Jono if he could store a drum kit for her. Or figure out how to ship it to Seattle. Actually, she'd rather that one. Maybe he could help her out?

Let's be honest, they'd bonded over being, well, gigantic outcasts and sort of freaks. But maybe being here meant they weren't freaks. Right?

They should go drinking and toast Vedder. She'd ruled.

Jeremy did his damn best to be the loudest person cheering for George. Yes, she'd had a boyfriend. One that looked really freaking good in Ferragamo (yes, he was wearing the one she'd so liked before) and had really, really enjoyed his time with her.

"GOOOO GEORGE!"

He couldn't really clap because of the flowers but he could yell and cheer with the best of them.

George's boyfriend officially ruled. She didn't care that she wasn't supposed to have one, or that she had kind of pretended he was only a semi-sort-of-boyfriend, which was mostly a fear of getting hurt. Because now that things were probably ending, okay, he'd been her boyfriend. At least, from her end. She wasn't going to pin him to anything, on his, but, you know, luckily, with it possibly ending, deciding that now really wouldn't.

Jono had been right. Being dead didn't mean it was over. Way better than having a hot, rich boyfriend was having a boyfriend who'd stay in bed and play videogames with you. And who could deal with you being dead. Having one that was all of the above? Fandom ruled. But not as much as Jeremy did.

Karla and George certainly had never been close, but she was good people and close to people Karla was close to, and therefore, she was getting applauded, dammit.

George made Jeremy happy, and that made Juliet happy. She'd cheer.
