Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Natalie gave him a look best describes as tolerant. "Yes, the fact that he's older and that ours ––" Look, it was easier to say than 'the one that goes to school here with us'. "–– is currently preoccupied elsewhere clued me in."

"He told you?" Topher made a face. "I thought that was just a me and Kenzi thing. Ugh."

Topher, don't be jealous.

Natalie shrugged, and kept it to herself whether she was amused at the jealousy or not. "As far as I can tell, he emailed everyone who might care to know."

"Well that was careless of him." No, Topher, not really. "What if someone was... talkative? Or whatever. It's really secret."

"Really?" Natalie asked, raising an eyebrow at him. "You're questioning Peter's thinking on what's safe to do?"

"What if someone tells on him?" Topher asked. "He could get all... assassinated."

"Do any of us have anything to tell on him?" Natalie pointed out. "I don't think I do."

And she was a little more trustworthy than that, anyway.

"Oh," Topher said. "Huh."

"Yeah." Good thing Natalie wasn't particularly inclined to be smug. "I'd trust Peter knows what he's doing."

"I still would've left it just to me and Kenzi," Topher grumbled. "We got to go to his house."

Well, almost.

"He didn't invite you over, did he?"

Natalie wasn't all that impressed.

"That sounds a little possessive," she pointed out.

Yes, Topher, it did.

"It does," Natalie confirmed. "And a little childish."

Natalie raised her eyebrow once more.

"You know, the whining isn't helping," she said. "If anything, it makes you sound even more childish."

That was a terrible comeback.

"That's a terrible comeback," Natalie noted, because it really, really was. "If I was meaner, I'd wonder how Peter trusted you with anything with the way you act."

"It's 'cause he likes me," Topher claimed loftily. "We're friends. You know."

Or he and Kenzi had stalked him across the island and then back to his home. One of the two.

Well, she didn't doubt the friendship. Just whether he'd been told or stumbled upon something that had forced Peter into sharing.
