Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

"So hi," Topher said, locating the slightly more stubbly older Peter he'd done radio with this morning. "Can I sit? Or would your bodyguards be all--" He gestured wildly with his hands to indicate distress.

Peter eyed one bodyguard. Then the other.

Then he looked back towards Topher. "I think I can give you five minutes before they start getting antsy, kid."

"Nice," Topher said, claiming a seat. "Awesome. So... what's up?"

Look. He saw a Peter, he talked to Peter. It was ingrained.

This Peter, on the other hand, barely even remembered Topher's name.

Actually, he didn't even do that much.

"I'm watching my brother graduate," he said.
dollpocalypse: (obnox: yeah but i'm very smart)

"Not yet you're not," Topher pointed out. "Hasn't started yet."

Typical Topher, really.

Peter leaned forward. "I really don't think the semantics matter all that much," he said conversationally, "As 'sitting here in this chair waiting for my brother to graduate' communicates the same damned thing in essence."
dollpocalypse: (conv: curious (mild) talking)

"Not if they leave his name off the list by accident and he winds up not graduating. Then that other thing would've been wrong."

Re: Welcome!

"No, that'd be a technicality. The school would be legally obligated to provide him with a new diploma, and he would still technically be graduating right now," Peter said. "Look, is there a point to this?"
dollpocalypse: (conv: casual)

"Nope," Topher admitted freely, then carried right on with, "What if he failed all his classes?"

Ahahahahaha.

"You're really burning through those five minutes," Peter pointed out.

"Maybe," Topher conceded, and he segued. "How's Hegemonning?"

Still not a verb, for one thing.

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] thefirstwiggin.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's not a verb."

Okay, maybe Peter was just pettily returning the favor now.
dollpocalypse: (conv: explaining with gestures (rude))

Re: Welcome!

[personal profile] dollpocalypse 2012-04-28 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"What? Sure it is," Topher said. "Like... governing. Being a governor. Same thing."

...No?

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] thefirstwiggin.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not at all, actually," Peter said mildly. "On any level."
dollpocalypse: (spazflail: okay FIRST of all)

Re: Welcome!

[personal profile] dollpocalypse 2012-04-28 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, they're different jobs, obviously," Topher said a little impatiently. "But it's just an example of how a job that's a noun can convert into a verb."

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] thefirstwiggin.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, there's no such verb as 'Hegemonning'," Peter replied, "And it's going fine, thanks."
dollpocalypse: (lol: thumbs up)

Re: Welcome!

[personal profile] dollpocalypse 2012-04-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good," Topher said, offering him a thumbs-up. "Good. Congrats. Good. Keep... doing that."

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] thefirstwiggin.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is the general idea," Peter said, quirking an eyebrow.
dollpocalypse: (awk: could've handled that better)

Re: Welcome!

[personal profile] dollpocalypse 2012-04-28 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
...

"Don't get killed," Topher added in a rush.

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] thefirstwiggin.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Who was this kid, seriously?

"I've been doing a pretty good job of that," he said, "which I think I'll be keeping up. Thanks."

That even sounded genuine. Ish.
dollpocalypse: (awk: could've handled that better)

Re: Welcome!

[personal profile] dollpocalypse 2012-04-28 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh-huh," Topher said, nodding a little. "Um. Good."

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] thefirstwiggin.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Peter agreed. "I do think so myself."
