Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

"Disorienting, isn't it?" Wesley murmured back, fiddling a little with his sleeves.

"Partly that," Warren agreed, shifting his weight anxiously from foot to foot. "Ad exciting. Maybe a little terrifying, too."

The rest of his life came after this. Could anyone blame Warren for being a bit fidgety about it?

"More than a little," Wesley admitted in a laugh. "Suppose there's any chance of the, ah, zebras starting some sort of... graduate transition program?"

"I don't know," Warren mused. "How do you feel about moving to Africa?"

... It was actually kind of tempting, admittedly.

"...I'm sure there are demons to be fought in Africa," Wesley said after a moment. "Real estate's probably relatively cheap, as well."

Boys. No.

"Of course, there are lions," Warren noted. "And honey badgers, I think. Do we want to risk honey badgers just so that we can accept the charity of some benevolent herd animals?"

Said the boy who was going to go to school on the Hellmouth. Good show, Warren.

...

"I'm not sure that we do," Wesley said after a pause. "I hear they're rather, er, invasive."

Yes. Yes, they were that.

They were, and they didn't even care. Damn honey badgers.

"Then I suppose it's for the best that I haven't spent much time looking into charities provided by zebras," Warren decided, smiling a little. "I guess we're going to have to go through with the rest of our lives without."

Such hardship.

"Well," Wesley said with a heavy sigh, "then I suppose we'll have to give it our best go without the help of safari animals."

Poor, poor boys.

"Best of luck?"

"Best of luck," Warren replied, offering Wesley a handshake.

They were really doing this.

How about that, huh?
