Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Ender got up on stage and accepted his diploma with grace. Not that it mattered terribly much, but the show of it - the shaking of hands, the smiling to the audience - meant something to someone.

This was supposed to be a turning point in the lives of so many people. The least he could do was act like it mattered.

This was kind of silly, wasn't it?

Petra remembered finding her own re-entry into high school silly, too. It had been a lot like playing games of pretend, trying to duck under the weight of the fame that had made her popular, trying to be herself even in an environment that didn't fit her at all.

But Petra hadn't had to graduate - Achilles had made sure of that.

There was something funny, wrong, and completely right about Ender being the one who actually managed to do this. So when he accepted his diploma, she did as audience did and applauded.

Suriyawong didn't think twice about applauding. This might be a staggeringly incongruent accomplishment for someone like Ender, but he owed nothing less to someone he regarded as highly.

Peter clapped. Partly because Ender was family.

Partly because he was kind of wondering if portal travel would allow this to turn into a photo-op.

All the whistling and hollering, shouting and cheering coming from the audience to an obnoxious degree? Totally Valentine.

She just loved anything that might make a Wiggin seem ironically normal. She couldn't help it.

And there was clapping from someone who wasn't from Ender's world back home, just to change things up.

Granted, it was in part because Topher was sitting not far away from Peter and he was a little wary of how the bodyguards would react if he didn't clap, but... details.

If Valentine was going to be a dork about Ender graduating, the least Ben could do was to join in the very loud cheering aspect, right?

Warren was all too happy to applaud as Ender stepped up for his diploma. They'd always had good conversations, and Warren couldn't help but wish him well, wherever he was going.

Maybe later he'd even warn him that he totally planned on trying to steal Ben away for one last idiotic night of drinking with the boys. But for now, clapping.

It was hard to reconcile this man with the boy that had TA-ed for him, but Anakin applauded Ender's achievement with a slightly wry smile on his face.

Luke smiled and clapped politely, taking note of where the ruckus from the crowd was coming from.

Perhaps he should introduce himself to Ender's family later.

Cassidy stood up and applauded for Ender when he got his diploma.

No, she was not at all teary about the fact this meant he would be leaving soon. NOT AT ALL.

Billy didn't whistle at Ender, since it seemed kind of inappropriate compared to what Ender was like, but he did clap, and joined in once he heard other people cheering.

Wow, Ender had a crowd. For some reason that meant Jaina was smiling a little more when she applauded.

Ender and Ben had been among the first people she'd made friends with when she'd gotten to the island. And when it was Ben's turn to get his diploma, Karla was going to be utterly obnoxious with her cheering.

For Ender, though, she was going to limit herself to standing on her chair and clapping--okay, and making almost as much noise as Val was.

Ender seemed to be a really good guy in a lot of ways. He'd get some grateful applause from Quinn.

Tara was proud and happy to get to clap for Ender.

Tahiri was not actually the sort to whistle, or she'd have considered doing it now. Instead, Ender just got a slightly louder burst of applause from where she sat.

Bruce clapped for Ender. As someone who intended to put on a show for the crowd himself, he could appreciate going through the motions. Even if they weren't walking buddies, that would have earned applause.

Ender was a steady and reliable male, with a good head on his shoulder. Lucivar had no idea what was in the lad's future, but he was certain he'd go far.

Ender was a friend of Karla and Warren and Dinah and whenever they'd run across each other in school or around town, he'd been pleasant ~~and he was FINALLY DATING BEN!!!!~~ so Momoko was definitely clapping for him.

Bod wasn't one to holler or whoop but he did applaud for Ender when the other boy crossed the stage and got his diploma.
