Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

There was something really surreal about this, Rinoa thought. Going across the stage, taking a diploma, and ... then just allowing herself a moment to soak it in.

Squall wasn't the sort to stand up and cheer, but he DID clap a lot louder for Rinoa than for anyone else. Today was a good day.

Was he the type to blush? Because Rinoa was going to blow him a kiss. So there.

... He knew she was a diva when he started dating her. That made this his fault.

Raven hadn't even bothered to sit down when she returned to her seat after receiving her diploma since she knew Rinoa would be right behind her. She remained standing so she could applaud her friend.

Rinoa bounced and waved excitedly to Raven.

Really, it was a wonder she hadn't tried to stop her on the way up so they could chatter about something.

And from the crowd, while Rinoa let it soak in, Jono applauded. She was on that list of people he trusted in an emergency, right along with Squall. The least he could do was applaud.

She'd come a long way since coming to Fandom, herself. She'd earned it.

She had. Thanks to some friends, and the world not ending, and a number of close saves.

She felt honored that she'd been tapped, in one of those emergencies, and she was grateful that he'd come with her to help save the world. And for everything else, especially considering that she was fairly certain he was Squall's best friend.

More importantly, right now, she was bouncing up and down and waving both her arms excitedly. Because, you know, graduation.

Featherball parent solidarity meant that Warren was going to giver Rinoa a cheer as she accepted her diploma.

And winged person solidarity. And just...

Look, there was plenty of stuff to feel solidarity over, here. They'd seen some of the roughest stuff that Fandom and beyond had to throw at them and they'd pulled through. So, cheering.

They really had. And flight solidarity, and wing solidarity, and worried about that solidarity, and, well, why narrow it down! Also, she had to wonder if somewhere, Pluma was happy, and if maybe they were happy, which was an interesting thought. Not anything that she thought about in ways that would make either Karla or Squall go homicidal, honest, but it was neat realizing that another-you had found something with someone that you hadn't really looked at that way. Like an adaptation of an old story you'd heard once before.

For now, she was going to wave. With her arms. Her wings were staying put, but she hoped he knew that her wings were out in spirit.

"I did!" Rinoa shouted, because this was absolutely the time to be yelling at people. It was her time, and she could be a princess if she wanted to, dammit. "Loooooooooooook, I did!!!"

Kennedy let out a loud, wordless whoop, standing on her chair again to do it.

...she hopped back down again immediately afterward, at least.

Rinoa whooped back, and waved both hands excitedly at Kennedy. Please, like Rinoa minded being the center of attention. That was approximately: never.

They should bring her, like, a crown or something, and -- right she was supposed to get off stage now.
