Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Ben gave Principal Winchester a grin as he took his diploma, becoming one in a long line of family members to graduate from Fandom High.

For some reason, that legacy didn't bother him nearly as much as some of the other legacies he had to live up to.

Of course Ender was applauding for him - though his face held a wry smile.

This tradition was more than a little ridiculous for the both of them.

Ben? Totally warranted a cheer. And not just because he was, in Warren's mind, the reigning champion of Angry Birds the whole galaxy over.

For reasons.

Shut up.

From the back of the crowd, there was a blue-grey man with most of his face covered, actually making an effort to clap loudly enough to be heard among the rest of the applauding crowd.

"Good show, mate!"

Even though Ben was not allowed to graduate, Topher did not know this, so he was clapping. A lot.

Sometimes he was nice, go figure.

His grandfather beamed at him proudly as he stood up and applauded.

And while this particular ceremony didn't hold a lot of symbolic resonance for Luke, any chance to cheer his son on was one he was inclined to approve of.

He stood up and applauded loudly for Ben, pride in his eyes, and missed Mara very acutely in this moment.

Luke wasn't as restrained as his older self. He stomped his feet and cheered loudly as Ben crossed the stage.

And from Firekeeper and Blind Seer, Ben got clapping (on Firekeeper's part) and howling (on both their parts) in congratulations.

What about the legacy of insane drunken shenanigans? Would anyone live up to that?

"The penguins would be proud of you!" Bobby cheered.

Billy cheered for Ben, and whistled as he made his way across the stage. Drunken shenanigans just wouldn't be the same next year.

Jaina clapped and "woo!"ed loudly from the stands, because decorum was for other people.

Annie applauded Ben, even if he did eat gizka that had just been running around.

For Ben, though, Karla could be obnoxious. So she kept standing on her chair and clapping. Cheering. Occasionally yelling about ice cream and biceps being proud of him.

You know. As you do.

"Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!"

Of course Tahiri was going to clap for Ben. "About time you caught up, Skywalker!"

. . . she couldn't help teasing a little.

Bruce clapped for Ben: one of the more helpful strategic minds he'd ever met.

Well, who was going to text her embarrassing pictures of Tony now?

Granted, gratitude for that wasn't the only reason Stephanie was cheering for Ben, but it did factor in somewhere.

Khary and Aaron were going to whoop for Ben. Because it was fun and they were teens and feeling rowdy.

"Prince Skywalker!"

Lucivar let out an Eyrien war whoop, potentially startling people in his general area. He was cheering for everyone he'd met in Agio, but Ben held a special place in his esteem.

Leia was smiling and applauding Ben. She'd been tempted to drag her Luke along, but three in one place might be a bit much, plus it might hurt his brain to see his future son graduate.

Ben, Momoko TOTALLY knew. Flight club at least had seen to that, and she was totally clapping as he crossed the stage.

And trying not to notice how some other people cheering for him... seemed to look alike.

...Fandom.

Instead of clapping, an impish Ghanima stood up from her seat and let out a trilling Fremen cry of victory, easily projecting it from her place with her family.

Sorry, Ben.
