Everyday Skills, Friday 2nd Period

As the class entered, Oz numbered them off by four and flipped a coin, handing them a small bag of candy afterwards.

"Persuasion," Oz began, once all the candy had been distributed. "Someone has something you want, you intend on getting it. Maybe you have something they want, maybe you have something you can make them want, point is, play your cards right and everyone wins, but especially you."

"Now you've all got some candy, there's different kinds, and some of you have more than others. The aim of today's class is to have as much of your preferred candy as you want by the end of the class, using any means that won't land you in detention or jail to get it."

"Have at it, kids."

Now, Rebecca wasn't really a fan of candy, actually, but she decided to take the exercise for the principle behind it.

She took a moment to adjust her top -- the buttons, specifically -- and leaned against the wall, assured of her inevitable success.

Rebecca had a really overblown opinion of how hot she actually was, yes.

Re: Candy Bartering - ES [14]

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2012-04-13 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla walked up to her and dropped her voice. "I'm so sorry, but I think your buttons have slipped a bit on your top! I'm not much of a seamstress but I can tighten up the button holes a bit if you'd like."

The earnestness, Rebecca. It's so earnest and wholesome.

Rebecca glanced back in the direction from which Rilla had just come and shot Peter a look.

And then she smirked, because, come on. 'Tighten up the button holes.' Of course her mind was going to go there.

"Thanks," she said, very sweetly, "but you can tell Peter I'm all right as is."

Beat.

"Would you like some barley sugar?"

"I was worried you'd catch cold," Rilla said. "The weather has been so unpredictable and with all of that skin exposed..."

Yes, she sounded like a grandmother. A judgey, judgey grandmother.

"And thank you! I'd love some."

[identity profile] zetabetabrat.livejournal.com 2012-04-13 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll be all right," Rebecca assured her condescendingly as she passed over the good majority of her bag of candy. "Thanks."

Beat.

"And you should probably fix that stain," she added in a hushed whisper, pointing at a perfectly stain-free spot on the side of Rilla's sleeve.

Re: Candy Bartering - ES [14]

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2012-04-13 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla made a little "eep" noise and covered the spot with her hand as she bolted away.

Not without taking the candy, though. She had eclairs to get out of this deal, you know.

Okay, so she had a lot of candy. Ooo, and it was colorful, too; Stephanie approved.

Now, how to go about persuading people to give her more of it? About the only method she could think of was good old Bat-intimidation, but wow, would that ever blow her cover in class, so no. And ahahaha, like she had any confidence in her ability to persuade people otherwise.

Rapunzel hadn't ever had barley sugar before, but it looked pretty tasty. But there were other kinds of candy! She should see if she can get someone to trade with her... That way they could both have some!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2012-04-14 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooo, whatcha got there?" Stephanie asked, juggling a couple of acid drops just to show off the pretty colors.

"Candy!" That was... pretty much all Rapunzel knew at this point.

Juliet had 12 sherbet bombs. She ... actually was pretty satisfied with that, but she knew that wasn't the point of the exercise.

She checked her wallet to see how much money she had. She could just buy up all the other candy.

Well, Peter had... twelve chocolate eclairs.

Woo. He was truly blessed. Or cursed. He wasn't sure which, and he didn't particularly care.

So he was sitting back and eating one of said eclairs, rolling his eyes over Rebecca's over-the-top display and thinking about the intel he'd gotten from an Indonesian spy just that morning.

Re: Candy Bartering - ES [14]

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2012-04-13 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla marched up to Peter after seeing where he was looking. "If you give me some of your eclairs it will prove that exposing your bosom isn't the only way for women to barter," she said.
lockestheway: (peter: so i see)

Peter raised an eyebrow at her, momentarily jarred from his thoughts. "Are you making the feminist argument?" he asked.

Admittedly, the thought of spiking Rebecca did hold some joy.

"Would it mean I'm doomed to be an old maid forever if I am?"

Rilla had a slightly confused view of feminism.

Peter squinted at her. "No," he settled on. "But I think we can make a trade if you'll do something for me."

Like he was going to keep to Oz's assignment when he could just amuse himself, and make sure nobody else distracted his thoughts from now on.

"Like I'll give you the rest of my eclairs if you go up to Rebecca, put on your best innocent face, and question her about the whereabouts of her sweater," he said. "Without letting on I'm involved, of course."

"We do," Rilla said, smoothing her skirt out and walking over to Rebecca. (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/3097103.html?thread=189571343#t189571343)

Re: Candy Bartering - ES [14]

[personal profile] lockestheway 2012-04-13 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that took care of two problems: one, Rebecca's inability to understand when subtlety was required, and two, the possibility of people coming up to him to talk about candy of all things.

Peter felt satisfied about this.

Rilla had sixteen pieces of barley sugar and was very pleased with herself until she saw that other people had chocolate eclairs.

Hmph.

Karla saw Rilla shooting envious glances at people with chocolate eclairs. And waited until she'd caught Rilla's eye before taking a huge bite of one of hers.

So good!

Richie had 12 acid drops. Richie didn't particularly want 12 acid drops, but he wasn't desperate for any of the other candies either.

"Acid drop is a weird name for a candy," Richie announced. "Sounds more like something you'd get from a shady looking guy in an alley."

Way to sell the candy there, Richie. Nice job.

Hanna had 16 sherbet bombs. She wasn't sure how she felt about that. Mostly because she wasn't sure anyone would want to barter for candy called sherbet bombs.

That one... wasn't Peter.

But that was all right, because candy was about the furthest from Peter's mind.

This was possibly why Oz's job satisfaction was greater.
