Basic Strategy, Monday, Period 4

The girl standing before the assembled group did not precisely appear prepared to talk. In fact, she looked a shade terrified of public speaking. Tyrion was certain she hadn't gotten that from him.

At her father's insistent nod, Joanna finally began to speak.

"Hello," she said. "I'm Joanna, Lord Tyrion's daughter. He's having me run class today because ..." She didn't really understand the because, and she trailed off there to look to her father.

"Because public speaking is an essential life skill," Tyrion supplied. "No one will take you seriously if the cat steals your tongue when you're nervous." That last bit was aimed at all of them, not just his daughter.

"Right," Joanna said. "That. So you're all, guests included, supposed to stand up for three minutes and say something about your child or your parent. If you have neither, spend your three minutes talking about..."

She looked to Tyrion again, and he shrugged. "How lucky you feel?" he tried. "If you feel lucky at all. Anyhow, it is a class presentation day, as the lady said. I'm sure you're all ingenuous enough to come up with something to say." He glanced back to Joanna to finish. "Do you want to wrap this up?"

Joanna nodded. "Take a few minutes to prepare, then begin with" -- she stabbed a finger into the group -- "you."

Punctuality was maybe not Collin's strong point. There had been a cute waitress at the restaurant that he'd gone to for lunch, and before he'd known it, he'd killed most of the afternoon just flirting and exchanging phone numbers (with a 'if you can get a portal to Glacia, about twenty years from now...' and a wink) before he'd realized what time it was.

So it was maybe a little awkwardly that he slipped into the room, caught up on the class topic courtesy of a few murmurs exchanged with Kayla, and then cleared his throat and stood.

"So, my dad," he said, because Kayla had already claimed their mother. "It's kind of weird for him to be this young. I mean... He doesn't look any different than he ever did, to me. But he carries himself differently. Back home, he's prouder. Way more confident. Dad has been Glacia's Consort as far back as I remember, even though he doesn't have Craft, and he owns that role. Hell's fire, I wasn't even really aware that he was any different from the rest of the Blood until I overheard some aristo snob griping about it."

Collin shrugged, a gesture that was about as much in his shoulders as it was in a ruffle of his newly-dyed feathers, and glanced at his father.

"I never really realized just how much growing my father did in order to get to that point until this weekend. He's so... quiet. I mean, the Dad I know is quiet too, but it's a strong sort of quiet. Little-Dad is more... uncertain. Like he's always questioning himself. I don't know what to make of that."

He looked at his father again, and then bit his lip and shrugged.

"I guess in a weird way, I'm sort of proud of him. I know how much potential he has, and I can barely imagine how much work he's got to do in order to reach it. I think maybe when I get home, I'll clap him on the shoulder and tell him that to his face, too. He's done a lot for our family. More than I can really say, here. But it's because of him that I'm proud to be a Worthington."

Warren just stared at his son... at... Nommy, or whatever his real name was, while he spoke. He found himself alternating between feeling intrigued about whoever it was that he had become, in this boy's reality, and wanting to kind of... hide under his desk or something.

And then it was his own turn, and so help him, Warren was kind of stuck sitting there, like a deer in the headlights.

"Uh..." He looked at Nommy, and then at the class, and then shrugged. "To be honest, I don't know all that much about this boy, yet. He's full of mischief, which I'm pretty sure he gets from his mother. This is his second time to the island, and he still hasn't told us his real name. I can't imagine Karla and I would really name a kid 'Nommy,' but at the rate we're going, I'm half tempted to just name our second child that, just because."

He was teasing, honestly.

"... And I have no idea what in the world he did to his wings. They certainly didn't look like that yesterday."

If there was more to this presentation, it was kind of lost behind the stern looks and the crossed arms. Please, please someone tell him that he raised his son better than that.

... Not that it had stopped Warren from adopting the gay macaw look once upon a time, himself. But in all fairness, he'd been drunk at the time. It had seemed like an awesome idea.
