Basic Strategy, Monday, Period 4
The girl standing before the assembled group did not precisely appear prepared to talk. In fact, she looked a shade terrified of public speaking. Tyrion was certain she hadn't gotten that from him.
At her father's insistent nod, Joanna finally began to speak.
"Hello," she said. "I'm Joanna, Lord Tyrion's daughter. He's having me run class today because ..." She didn't really understand the because, and she trailed off there to look to her father.
"Because public speaking is an essential life skill," Tyrion supplied. "No one will take you seriously if the cat steals your tongue when you're nervous." That last bit was aimed at all of them, not just his daughter.
"Right," Joanna said. "That. So you're all, guests included, supposed to stand up for three minutes and say something about your child or your parent. If you have neither, spend your three minutes talking about..."
She looked to Tyrion again, and he shrugged. "How lucky you feel?" he tried. "If you feel lucky at all. Anyhow, it is a class presentation day, as the lady said. I'm sure you're all ingenuous enough to come up with something to say." He glanced back to Joanna to finish. "Do you want to wrap this up?"
Joanna nodded. "Take a few minutes to prepare, then begin with" -- she stabbed a finger into the group -- "you."

General Class Stuff [4/02]
Re: General Class Stuff [4/02]
One human-shaped, one pony-sized, and... one horse-sized. Yeah. Firekeeper was doing her best to act as a mediator between Fenrir and Blind Seer. The latter was doing his best to ignore the teenage wolf, and Fenrir was doing his best to attempt to start a fight with Blind Seer.
[ooc: yes, Fenrir is larger than even Blind Seer.]

In other words: Please do not let the direwolves eat the teacher in a single bite, thank you.

Luckily, she was distracted by crayons and horse-sized wolves.
"Can I..."
"No. And at no point in the future will I say you can have one."
Presentations [4/02]
Re: Presentations [4/02]
"This is my son, Rhaego," she began, a little uncertainly, and suddenly felt a wave of sympathy for Joanna. This was easier when she knew what to say. "His father w -- is my husband, the great Khal Drogo. He was prophesied to be the Stallion Who Mounts the World, and at sixteen, he is nearly prepared to fulfill his destiny."
She cleared her throat in an effort to hold it together, though she was doing her best to disguise that. "He looks like my husband," she offered, a little softly. "And I feel so incredibly lucky to have seen him, even just this once."
It...was not three minutes. But she was going to crumble if she kept trying, and she trusted that Lord Tyrion would understand that. She resumed her seat.
Re: Presentations [4/02]
He shrugged. "This place is strange, but I feel lucky to have seen my mother at this age. She seems sadder than my father described, and she has small...creatures." He looked to Dany uncertainly, adding a word in Dothraki.
"Lizards," Dany supplied. "Baby dragons."
"Dragons," Rhaego agreed. "But she is still my mother. And I will miss her, when I leave."
And then he, too, took his seat, though he was not having the difficulties his mother was.
Re: Presentations [4/02]
He smiled. "But yeah, she's pretty astral. And old, which is also new."
Re: Presentations [4/02]
"This happy little princess is Sylvie, and she is a daughter of one of my future selves. Her mother is my best friend, who is currently dating the emo boy known as Squall Leonhart. She's used to getting whatever she asks for, which is why she's kind of pissy at me right now, because I told her she couldn't take home the big bad wolf over there."
He glanced down at Sylvie and shook his head. "I get the feeling that she's going to get told that a LOT when she turns into a teenager."

Re: Presentations [4/02]
"This is my daughter, Kayla," Karla began, voice more subdued than usual when she spoke in class. "Her brother is wandering around the island somewhere. I've met them both before, but as children; seeing them as nearly grown surprised me, as I'm sure it surprised many of you this year. But I also feel lucky to have met them this way. Children--most children--" most non-Wiggin children, for example "--have a fairly limited viewpoint of the world. For good or ill, they see their parents simply as parents and their lives as normal, no matter how abnormal those situations might be."
"But teens have a wider vantage point, and can see their parents as people, too. I remember how much I worshiped my parents as a child and, last year, I remember how much the children, in turn, worshiped me. This year, however, that is not the case. I am learning that as a parent, I am flawed, that I make the wrong decisions sometimes, that I can be unfairly harsh and critical and judgmental. And, in an odd way, this makes me feel better about the possibility of being a mother one day. Because I no longer feel like I have this impossible ideal to live up to. Because I can see who my children have become and how my parenting has shaped them, and even with the mistakes I undoubtedly made, they're people I can be proud of. For someone who has always feared the kind of mother she would make, I cannot ask for a better gift than this glimpse into the future I have been given."

So it was maybe a little awkwardly that he slipped into the room, caught up on the class topic courtesy of a few murmurs exchanged with Kayla, and then cleared his throat and stood.
"So, my dad," he said, because Kayla had already claimed their mother. "It's kind of weird for him to be this young. I mean... He doesn't look any different than he ever did, to me. But he carries himself differently. Back home, he's prouder. Way more confident. Dad has been Glacia's Consort as far back as I remember, even though he doesn't have Craft, and he owns that role. Hell's fire, I wasn't even really aware that he was any different from the rest of the Blood until I overheard some aristo snob griping about it."
Collin shrugged, a gesture that was about as much in his shoulders as it was in a ruffle of his newly-dyed feathers, and glanced at his father.
"I never really realized just how much growing my father did in order to get to that point until this weekend. He's so... quiet. I mean, the Dad I know is quiet too, but it's a strong sort of quiet. Little-Dad is more... uncertain. Like he's always questioning himself. I don't know what to make of that."
He looked at his father again, and then bit his lip and shrugged.
"I guess in a weird way, I'm sort of proud of him. I know how much potential he has, and I can barely imagine how much work he's got to do in order to reach it. I think maybe when I get home, I'll clap him on the shoulder and tell him that to his face, too. He's done a lot for our family. More than I can really say, here. But it's because of him that I'm proud to be a Worthington."
