Practical Mythology, 3/21/12, Period 2, [Class Session 11]

The class had moved back to the Danger Shop for today. The simulation was of an ancient battlefield outside a large walled city - Troy, to be exact. And near the large gates to the city was a giant wooden horse.

"You probably now this story," Hercules said, pointing at the large wooden horse. "About how the Greeks invaded Troy during the Trojan War by hiding in a giant wooden tribute. Pretty ridiculous until you realize how many died through such a tactic. It was somewhat underhanded, and... yes." He shook his head.

"But how many of you know what started this war?" He looked around. "I'm not going to say what most say. This was not a war started by an unfaithful woman. It was a war started by a man, who sentenced thousands to die because his wife left him. Why should we blame Helen for following her heart? She certainly blamed herself, but that hardly should condemn her in history. And yet, it happens."

"The Trojan War was an exercise in bad decisions, conflict started for wrong reasons, women blamed for things that were the fault of men. It is one of the darker stories of myth, if you look at it carefully. It was not glorious in any way."

He lead the class over to the wooden horse, then slapped it twice on one of the wooden legs.

It's side opened, and out poured... kittens and puppies.

"So to lighten the mood, here are some cute animals to play with. If there are any questions, feel free to see me."
