"Only if you don't mind sitting in the smoking section." Pippi responded patting the seat next to her.

"Which is anywhere you'll see these two scallawags." she nods in the direction of Walter and Pip.

"I don't think I've met you before. I'm Pippi. Pippi Longstocking."

She's 14, freckels, red-headed, braids that stick out, and wearing an outfit that would make Punky Brewster's eyes bug out of her head.

The dark-haired boy grinned, "Not at all." He responded, reaching into his pocket for cigarettes. "I hope you don't mind..."

"I'm Boone Carlyle. I think I've seen you around a few times..."

"We don't mind. The more people smoking, the less chance our friends will ask us to stop." Walter waved at the newcomer. "Walter Dornez. Have a seat."

Boone complied, smiling at the sable-haired youth. "Thanks," he said, fumbling to light a cigarette.

Pip pulled out a lighter and held it up for the kid's cigarette. "Here ya go. Pip Bernadette."

"Thanks," he replied, his very demeanor suggesting that he wasn't at all an experienced smoker. In fact, he kind of sucked at it.

"Are you trying a new habit on for size?" It's a good thing Walter has too many problems on his plate as it is, or he might be joining Nadia and Pippi in noticing Boone in a more personal way.

As it is, he's just curious about the new guy.

"Yeah, kinda," he admitted. "Is it that obvious?"

"A little. Lighting a cigarette gets much easier with practice, for one."

Pippi isn't sure if she's seen Boone around or not, but is always happy to get talkin' with somebody new.

With a wave of her hand she said, "Nah, I'm fine, been hanging around with these two smoke-stacks. Can't think one more will really make much of a difference." She smiled, which isn't unusual, she's always smiling.

"So what's your story Boone?"

"My story's kinda dull..." he said with a wry smile. "Probably not as interesting as anyone else around here's."

"But that in and of itself makes it singular, and thus interesting. Don't ya think?"

"Pippi's right. That makes you a novelty." Walter is trying to keep focused. This Boone guy's not bad looking, maybe Nadia...

Boone grinned. "I'm sixteen and I'm from California. This time period. I'm very...WASPish. My family has a bit of money, and, over the last six years, I've spent more time in boarding schools than I have at home."

"WASPish? You have a bad temperament? Thank you for warning us in advance. Is that why you have been in boarding schools so much?"

"No bad temperament." He assured quickly. "I just meant that I come from the typical rich kid in suburbs family."

Walter nodded dubiously. "I am not from this time period, so I will take you at your word for what is typical."

"Honestly? I don't know what's typical myself."

"Around here, not even breathing is necessarily typical, so you will fit right in. My roommate is an alchemist, my boyfriend is a mutant, and that nice redhaired girl," he nodded toward Pippi, "is stronger than anyone I've ever met who had a pulse."

"Really?" He looked over at the redhead, surprised.

"How does your family earn its money? If you're WASPish, does that mean they're in paper?"

"My mom's a Martha Stewart-esque wedding planning...person. My stepdad's a pretty big lawyer."

"And...what?" He lost by the last part.

"Oh... What does that have to do with being a being a wasp (http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2077.html)?"

"It's an acronym," he said, amused by the ~~too cute for words~~ redhead. "I picked it up in prep school, I guess."

"Ohhhhh!" she says. "So do you like this school better then the other ones?"
