Today the students would find themselves in the Danger Shop instead of the usual classroom: this time in a setting up to look like a house, with comfortable sofas and chairs to sit on in the living room and fully stocked kitchen behind it, and a trap door leading to the basement hiding under the rug.

...didn't everyone have that in their house?

When class began, Anakin came in through the door. "Today we talk about lying. Kant believed that any lie, no matter how small, was a violation of one's dignity. I, personally, am beginning to think that Kant came from a magical bubble land where he'd spent his life swaddled in cotton candy, but some of you might believe he has a point."

Anakin certainly didn't think so, though.

"Jim and Grabrielle ~~assuming they are there~~ are holding two lists: If you are on Jim's list, this is your house and one of the students on Gabriells's list is hiding from the authorities in your basement. In a minute, several armed stormtroopers--think police with absolutely no sense of humor--will be coming through the door. If they find your classmate, they will take them away and kill them. You have to decide if you will lie and say you have no idea where your classmate is, while your classmate tries to persuade you not to sell them out. If you get caught lying, you'll be killed as well. If you turn them in, it's possible--but not likely--you'll receive a monetary reward."

He clapped his hands to begin. "You have three minutes until the authorities arrive."

Loki smiled at that. "Oh, no. Not at all," he replied cheerfully. "Though I dare say few would trust me to do little more than save my own skin in such a situation. So, I may not be the best of judges on the matter."

"Are they justified in thinking that?" If he was honest about people not trusting him, maybe he was about the actual truth. You never knew, and she was curious.

"I believe that would depend upon who you asked," Loki replied. "Some might claim that it is my very nature to lie, others that I am wicked through and through simply based upon the unfortunate happenstance of my name. I, however, would refute both claims, but whether or not I am correct..."

He shrugged.

"That's not a 'no I'm innocent'," Kate noted, exhaling a short laugh. Which quite possibly said all it needed to. "Why aren't you the one being hunted by troopers?"

"Let us believe it is because I am far too clever to be caught if I did not want to be."

"Right." Excuse her for looking amused. "So what should I expect to have to do for you to hide me in your basement?"

If she would do it was still up for debate.

Loki gave that some thought before responding with, "Why would I place myself at risk to help you?"

"I'm a useful person to know, and delightful to boot?"

The first, perhaps. The second... most people probably wouldn't agree. But Loki didn't necessarily know that.

It was worth a try.

"Useful how?" Damn it, Kate. Don't interest the trickster. it can only end in tears.

So long as the tears weren't hers.

"I can probably ward up this place so they couldn't get in if they tried?" There were bigger, better talents, but that was one of the few she was willing to share.

You could never be sure who would cry when he was around, it's true.

"As could I." DO GO ON, KATE.

"And I can hold my own in a fight and make mean pie."

Come on. Pie. Who wanted to let that talent go to waste?

"Why are you the one hiding then?"

"Misunderstanding?" Kate suggested. "Or maybe these guys just prefer cake, what do I know."
