Sociology of Violence: 2nd Period

"Welcome, everyone. Veronica, thank you for covering class last week."

*handwave* Grissom launches into a lecture on Gang Violence *handwave*

"Now, as I mentioned, gangs tend to adopt colors, or other means of identification. For discussion today, I'd like you to describe a gang symbol that you have seen, whether in your life or through the media, and discuss why you believe it was or is used by that group."

Homework: Read Community and Institutional Responses to the Youth Gang Problem by Irving A. Spergel and Ron L. Chance.

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Hello, class. Bel, I appreciate your efforts last week, covering the class. I have also recorded all your grades from the quiz."

Grissom then give Marty a sorrowful look. A C-? Woe.

*handwave* Grissom launches into a lecture on Out-of-Body Experiences *handwave*

"Now unfortunately, I'm not allowed to give you all ketamine or put you through extreme sensory deprivation or a near death experience, so we can't replicate the condition as a lab assignment," Grissom says with a grin, because seriously, drugs are bad and he's obviously kidding.

"However, as out-of-body experiences are far more prevalent than many other types of paranormal activity, if any of you have had these experiences, or know someone who has, I'd like you to share. And if not, I'd ask you to discuss why or why not you believe in the concept."

Homework: Grissom hands out a packet to read for Wednesday. Very. Serious. Reading. Kind of. Also, please bring your jackets and weather appropriate clothes. As long as it doesn't rain, we'll be outside.

[IMPORTANT: For next class, I need you to read this short post and leave a comment there. Please, please. It's going to be fun, and it's very easy! I promise.]

Lana passes Phoebe a note.

Thank you so much for the flowers! They are absolutely beautiful! And you didn't need to do that. I was happy to be with you.

Shep signs in.

When the discussion comes around to him he explains the episode 38 Minutes about the time he had to have his heart stopped in order to complete a ... medical procedure. And how while he was dead, he could have sworn he was watching everyone from the ceiling as they tried (and failed) to get his heart restarted. And then again later when the doctor actually got brought him back to the land of the living. (Or at least the floating city of the living)

So glad you're back. I really missed you.

Lana signs in.

After some hesitation as to whether it's something she really wants to share she decides to go for it. "I sort of had an experience like the remote viewing kind. After getting a concussion I began seeing things through someone else's eyes. It was pretty terrifying."

Angela signs in and takes notes, but shakes her head when Grissom asks for people to share experiences. She doesn't have one she can talk about.

"But it seems possible to me," she ventures. "I mean, if there are souls, or spirits, it makes sense."

Re: Paranormal: 2/6

After listening to the others, Walter shakes his head. "I have never seen it, but I am really not willing to discount anything at this point. Out of body experiences do not seem that unlikely since I do believe in the existence of the soul and that it can exist separate of a physical body."

"I've never experienced anything like that yet, but I believe it's possible. After all the weird things I've scene, I think anything is possible."

Paige signs in with a large puppy close on her heels, and by close I mean he's attacking them, but he is good honest!

She looks around to explain to Grissom why she has said dog.

First Sam wonders what exactly this Marty kid has done to earn such a look of woe from a teacher. Obviously from his quiz grade and the fact that everyone in the school seems to want to kill him probably means he's not very smart to begin with.

When the class topic comes up about OBE's, Sam begins to get the heebie-jeebies.

"Um. Well... I knew this one guy who claimed that he had several out of body experiences. He'd jump from body to body of a person trying to set things right and go throughout different time periods. Of course, you know he was probably nuts," Sam says feeling extremely awkward.

Lyta signs in, and settles down to take notes. Unfortunately, she's not as attentive as she normally is, and by the end of class, there aren't as many notes as she might like.

Cordy signs in.

"I've never had one myself, though I will in the future, but I definitely believe it's possible. I've known people who have died and come back, though in that case it was more a case of being sent to a hell dimension for hundreds of years. But definitely. I'm sure it happens."

Broots signs in, looking vaguely confused. "Well, I've never had an out of body experience, but I'm sure they're possible. I read somewhere that some sleepwalkers have them sometimes actually."

"I can be on another plane of existence, sometimes. Not always this one. I went to another plane when I got disintegrated once in season 2...does that count as out of body?"

After a pause, Stark grinned crookedly and added, "I got better."
